About two months ago an employee of McGregery, the stave man, was disabled while, working with machinery. Since that time McGregory has spent over $500 in careing for the unfortunate person, and t?ays he is willing to spend as much more if his health ean be restored. Mise Alice Losg, a member of the Senior class, and an accomplished youg lady of the Kappa Alp'ia Thst,a fraternity, was deservedly awarded the honor to represent vhe University in the State Contest, at- Indianapolis next Thursday evening. Her subject, "Social Evolution," is peculiarly fitting to the speaker, and is pronounced by competent judges as being superior &r thought and originality cf any thing that Las ever been offered as a contest s-.peech. Besides Miss Long's captivating appearance, her manner, position on the rostrum, and correctness of her gestures ?li a Id -o the perfection of her oratory, while her loud keen voi'e, with almost perfect arrb -illation gives her special advantage.
