The Keiubli ?an voters of the Citv of Bloomington will meet in Convention in their various Wards Tuesdays April 12th, 1881, and nominate candidates for Mayor, Marshall, Clerk. Treasurer, Assessor, one Councilman for the 1st Ward, one Councilman for the 2d Ward, and one Council man for the 3d Ward of the Citv. The Convention of the 1st Ward will be at the Court House, of the 2d tvam ai xarmer s ones nouse on the corner of Walnut and 5th streets of the 3d Ward at Clark's shop on the corner of Walnut and 3d streets. Polls will be opened at 5 p. m. and close at 8 p. m. At 8:30- o'qockiM.,same evening, a mass Convention of Republicans will be held in the Court House to receive and count the votes of each Wad for Mayor, Marshal, Clerk, Treasurer and Assessor. ByOui lElipox-to: Look out for the wedding. Mrs. Amelia Pearson, mother of Judge Pearson, is dangerously sick. Miss MiKJfiE Coffin has returned from Indianapolis, after a pleasant visit of two weeks. Miss Belle Rohkes has returned from a visit among her many friends of Columbus Ind. Miss Nanhie Duncan, of Bedford, was a guest of Hon. H. C. Duncan, of this city, this week. If rumor can be relied on, an Ind ianapolis gentleman will soon claim the hand of one of Bloomington s fairest daughters. Mk, Nichols and wife arrived from Florida, Tuesday afternoon. Mr. N.' thinks this is the coldest climate he has been in for some time. Bedford Magnet: Blooraington's Mendelssohn Society should favor Bedford with another entertainment. The Society has a reputation here. The marriage of a fair maiden of Bedford to a son of a very prominent family on the north end of the Avenue, is announced for the first week in May. I.ASTlTriday evening several couples participated in a social at the. residence of Prof. Houghton. Mrs. H. won the hearts of of all by her kind ness and hospitality. Always add a line or two on the margin of a letter to a lady. You can't imagine how much satisfaction a woman obtains in turning a letter upside down to read a postscrip. "Well I should titter," is the latest slang phrase placed before an admiring public by the misses in their teenu, and the talk of a garrulous person is delu atively referred to as a "lip concert." Inventive genius, in the slang line, knows not when to stop. To our young ladies who contemplate a 3a voyage, the following remedy for sea-sieknees will probably be invaluable: Lie down in your berth all the time, keep constantly on deck, eat spairingly for several days before you sail, be eu e to eat a hearty meal before starting, avoid dosing, eat as little as possible, take all the nourishment you can, ct., etc. A VERY SAD ACCIDENT. Ellettsville, April 6 Word was received here yesterday of a sad accidental shooting resulting in the death of Mr. Michael Galloway, an .employee of the Perry stone quarry of this place. Saturday afternoon Galloway, iu company with Harry Kelly, a neighbor, procured suns, and started for a duck hunt. They had gone but a short distarc wiiesi they came to a fence, near Wm. Wbisnand'. Mortimer' Whitehead, gex-leoturer of the National Grange deliver d an interesting lecture, Tuesday, in the M. E. church, to about forty persons. The following suggestion from the Magnet will apply to Bloomington as well as to Bedford. "The town authorities should paas an ordinance preventing stock of all kinds from running at large inside the corporation, and ther. a pound should ue built ud all loose stock put in it.
