SATURDAY,

FEB. 26, 1881,

LOCAL DEPARTMENT.

Miss Maggie Robinson,of Laporte Indiana, is visiting in this city, a guest of Miss Lizzie Owen. . Wm. Tiester, teacher of the Colored School, was called to his old home at Indianapolis last Wednesday, by the dangerous illness of his mother. The report published that Mr. Bunger would have to be taken back to the Asylum is a mistake, as he is improving and getting along finely, Mrs. Robinson, the woman revivalist, opened hr labors here Wednesday evening. Sh will be here over tomorrow (Sunday) and deliver the evening sermon. Special attention is directed to the new advertisement of McCalla & Co. Since they have adopted th cash system they have marked their goods away down! It is stated that" Wm. Rogers is to be the deputy (in this county) for Hon. H. C, Duncan, Prosecuting Attorney-elect. This would not only be satisfactory to Mr. Rogers' many friends, but would be a deserved reward for the able and effective service rendered by him during the last campaign. The bill giving to woman the right to serve as Presidential Elector has been defeated in both Houses of the Legislature. Representative Buskirk certainly represented his people when he voted No! Buskirk's interest bill, to reduce the rate from 8 to 6 percent, has passed the House, and riw nowjgo to the Senate. In the case of Henley, Browning and MePheeters vs L. N. A. & C. Rail Road affidavit for change of venue from this county "on account of the undue influence of the plaintiffs over the citizens of Monroe county, and the prejudice against said company." said affidavit was sworn to by Cap. Friedly. The case will likely betaken to Shoals for trial. Last week two of Bloomington's 'fly7 society boys went down to Bedford to make a visit and "tendei" their tender regards, forgetting entirely that the measles were playing havoc with the fair maidens of that sister city. The boys, however, had brave hearts and relied on Providence to take care of the measles, while they en

nertained the girls. This plan would J

have worked well enough, but a knock &t the doofr brought the old lady, who kindly informed them that tbere was "no admitaIlce.,, Moral: Don't go from home on such errands.
