White River Water at Anderson Practically Useless.

A special dispatch to the Sentinel

yesterday from Anderson give the details of the killing of millions oi fish in white river.

At 10 o'clock tonight Anderson ia unable to use her water supply from the river owing to dead fish. The dump made by the Yorktown straw board company killed them by the millions, and they began to become putrid this afternoon. The

water began to show evidence ot u

this afternoon, and has been getting

worse ever since. At 10 o'clock it

was a dark yellow and the strench

was so great that faucets that were being allowed to run had to be shut off. A bowl of the water when heated would stench a room so that it could not be occupied. The equal has never been known in this city. The water is no good for any purpose, and other than individual wells it is the only supply The Indianapolis water works company tonight notified Prosecutor Scanlon that they would stand half of the pro-ecution expenses. He

went over the twenty miles and was

surprised. The killing was com

plete and the greatest on record. It

is thought that there are 10,000,000

fiah laying dead in the twenty

miles.

Tun loads were taken out of Lawmore'rs ford today. Many of the

fish are foot and a half long.

It was a great scheme of a New Albany youug ladyto get a husband, but it worked too well. She received an invitation to attend a party the other evening, and prior to her depaature swallowed a raw chicken heart, in the hope of capturing a husband during the evening. It is said that by swallowing this portion of a chicken a young lady may be

safe in presuming that the first man that kisses her after having undergone the trying ordeal, will become her husband. But the aforesaid yonng lady is now in a serious quandary, as when she entered tae residence at which the party was held, every young man rushs forward embraced and kigs ed her, and they came so fast and furious that she does not remember who delivered the first kiss.

On account of the enormous

yield of fruit this year, the dealers

in crockery are at a loss to know

how to nupply the demand for

cans and jars. Yesterday it was not an unusual sceue to see wagon

loads ot these wares being delivered

to grccerymen in this city. Four wagons, heavily loaded with queensware, went to the little vil

lage of Unionville yesterday. This

lias been the best year for fruit of all kinds, except peaches, ever known in Monroe county. The Workingmens Building Loan Fund and Saving Association filed suit for foreclosure yesterday against Mary E. McPheeters and Lincoln McPheeters.

Crop Bulletin. Generally cloudy weather and numerous local rains on several days improved vegetation in general. Some of the early corn malured fast and could not be benefited, but the late corn has been helped by the rain, promising a

good crop if it escapes early frosts; in Spencer county corn was never better; in Bartholomew Scott, Gibson counties the crop is damaged by dry weather, and in the latter county even the late corn has fired. Clover is nearly

all cut, and thrashing, although interupted by rains in some localities, countinuef ; the yield is fair

in general; in Scott county from

oue to two bushels per acre; in

Spencer county the yield of seed is poor. Pastures and meadows are improved by the rain, showing green again and promising good fall pasturage. Potatoes have been improved by the rain in most counties; the crop is not very good in Jackson county, being baked and rotting in the ground. Tomatoes and beans are in fair promising condition, especially if early frosts are delayed; in Switzerland coun'y tomatoes

rotting badly; in Washington

couuty the crop is late. Some of

the tobacco crop has been housed;

it ripened too early to be heavy;

that which still remains in the field looks well and improved by the late rains, especially in Spei-

cer, Dubois, Washington ana

Switzerland counties. Apples are very abundant. Fall plowing suspended by the dry weather has been commenced again; most fields are prepared for wheat sowing, which will begin s um. Rye has been sown in Jackson county; jt has failed to come up yet. Killed On The Monon. H. Neal Sloan, of this city, who
