An Interesting Occasion At The Christian Church Last Night. The "Father's Meeting" at the Christian church last night ."was attended by two hundred people. Prof Robert J Aley presided. After music by a male quartette, consisting of 1, W Pauley, Richard Maxwell, Homer Woolery and Kirkwood Miers, devotional excercises by Rev T C Probeft Were attnouitp edi Charles Baker gave a solo after which Dr WL, Bryan gave an interesting talk on "Child Study." He gave a thorough comparison of the study of the child of today and the child of centuries ago, showing that with the advance of civilization child-study becomes more and more an absolute necessity. After a solo by Homer Woolery, D 0 Spencer gave a talk on "My First Experience. It was "Spencerian" from beginning to end, and while it kept the audience in almost constant' laughter there was a serious vein beneath it all that gave his hearers solid food for, thought, judge Robert W Miers followed hi one of his practical talks, "Incidents From The Court Room' The Judge related how the laws of the state put restraints on the child until the age of twenty-one was reached how the statutes prohibit ed the use oi liquor, fire-arms arid other dangerous elements, and that at the age of twenty-one tfcfe law put each one on his manhood or womanhood, relying upon the, fact that home training, common schools, graded schools and colleges ought to do their share in enabling all to resist temptation. I W. Pauley and Master Eugene Adkins .each sang a solo. Dr. Steele gave his ideas as to what ought to be a chris tian father's attitude toward his boy. He ought to teach him to be sober, to be clean in body and mind, and to teach him habits of industry and honesty, so that he would, not owe any man anything but love. Mr. Bradfute gave his experience with canier.boys, their employment and the discharge of their duties. In making a contract with a boy, ionestyi and plainness of speech should, govern, ' and the contract should be faithfully kept by both parties to it. If a boy earns a penny give it to him, and if he violates his contract make settlement accor dingly. Honesty, courtesy and punctuality are the controlling elements, and these should be enforced with kindness, and yet with firm ness. After a solo, "Goodnight," by Kirkwood Miers, the audience was dismissed by-Dr, Steele. Probable M u rder. Janes Deckard, Sr., of Oulsrie, the Victim. . V La3t night Dr. L. T. Lewder and attorney James F. Morgan teceived telegram calling them to Guthrie, Lawrtnce county, on first train. Dr. Lowder ges to assist in the Coroners inquest over the body of James Deckard, sr, and Attorney Moroan goe as compel - for Henry Meadows', who is accused of killing, Deckard. . I From the information thus ferf received it npars that Deckard's frogs strayed into Meadows' cornfield, and Meadows . set his upon them. Deckard hearing the noif e, went out, and the two men became engaged in a quarrel. The two men were alone, and as to the details of the conflict there; is a difference of opinion amonj?
