George Braxton, of Linden,, is visiting friends in the city. Mrs. Will H. Adaws has returned from her vacation at Bay View, Mich.

Miss Nora Kirby has returned from a visit to Martinsville and Indianapolis. Mrs. J. D. Hampton has returned from a three weeks' visit at Bay View, Micb. Chas. Boss, of the telephone exchange, is at Louisville looking after business interests. H.T. Swindler, wife and son, Earl, nave returned from a short yiait to Quincy friends.

Sheriff Adams and Clerk Woodward were at EUettsville and Stf nesville yesterday on legal business. Miss Pearl Taylor has returned to her home in Harrodsburg, after a pleasant visit to her aunt, Miss Julia Clark. Sunday school at McDoel tomorrow at 3 p. m., led by O. L. Edwards. Preaching at 7:45 by Rev. W. F. Reed.

D. G. B. Harris has returned from a business trip to Cloverdale. He will be found by his many patrons today at his office. Henry Munson is at Green Castle having been called there by the dangerous illness of his mother.

Walter Fans, one of the clerks in

J. C. Robinson & Co. grocery, met with a very painful accident yes

severely his eyebrows and lashes were framed off and his hair singed. Blewett, the druggist, dres-ed the burns.

Mrs. Mary Kennedy has returned to her home in Martinsville after a pleasant visit to Mr. and Mrs. Francis Burgoou and family. John Philips was given 19 days in ihu Mayor's Court yestesday morniug for intoxication. On his way to the "Works" he gave bail and was seen no more.

The Bloomington Christian endeavor Union will hold an early morning Prayer Meeting Sabbath Morning Aug. 11, at six o'clock at the Walnut Street Presbyterian Church.

The Christian Endeavor Societies of the city will hold an early prayer meeting at the Walnut street Presbyterian church, Sabbath morning at six o'clock. Subject: "Cooperation;" 1st Cor., III. 9. A similar meeting two weeks ago was a success, and very helpful; it is hoped that all endeavorers will be present and make this one still better.

Jewel, the four months old

daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. N.

Tread way, died yesterday at two o'clock of brain fevef. The little

one has been confined to her bed

for more thau three weeks. The parents have the heartfelt sympathy

of the community in their hour of

trial. The funeral will occur this

afternoon at 4:30 from the residence on East Third street and will

be in charge of Rev. T. J. Clark.

William J. Beckett or "Uncle Billy" ai he wiscaavnonly called,

died at his residence on Kirk wood

Avenue Thursday night at 10:30

o'clock. He had been a sufferer

for some time with dropsy of the heart.

Mr. Beckett was one of the pio

neer residents of Bloomington and was at the time of his clouth

in his 77th year. Only a few

weeks ago his wife died. He was a veteran of the late war and a member of thd G. A. R. The funeral will occur f om

his late residence this morning at

ten o'clock, the services being in

charge of Rev. Probert assisted by Dr. Steele. The G. A. R.

will have charge of the funeral

and will attend in a body.

e IntJ Our Amidst Yesterday.

Mr. John N. Taylor died at the ri: idenre of her sister, Mrs, Howard Hughes, on I ohege Hill, je.-lerday afternoon at one thirty o c ock. Her death is an unusually a sad one, and is the result of blood poisoning, her finger which was slightly cut came in contact with a sore on a lady patient she had been nursing. It was bat a short time until she was taken dangerously ill and within a week died. She came to Bloomington from Red Sulphur Spring", Va., with her husband, John N. Taylor, who was janitor of the College about eight years ago. Sho was a member of the Walnut Street church and a woman of many good traits. Her husband was telegraphed regarding the funeral arrangement, and it is likely that t he remains will be forwarded to her old home in Red Sulphur Springs. At the time of her death she was in her 35th year. The funeral services will be held today at lhr e o'clock, at the residence of W. H. Hughes.

was served in abundance. Especially did the little folks enjoy themselves, and they were there in large numbers. The proceeds go to the organ fund of the B. church. The net proceeds last night amounted to quite a snug sum and the ladies oughs to feel proud of their success.

So great has been the demaa I fo; his services aud so continued the call of patients at his office room, at the National Hotel, that Dr. Rose, the eminent Cincinnati specialist, has decided to remain here until Thursday, August 15th, in order that those who have not been able to consult him may do so.

A peculiar law suit is about to be instituted at Anderson: Old Joe Mix, known over Indiana as the Seer of White river, for his peculiar ability to tell tho future and locate stolen property, has consulted attorneys aud will bring a damage suit against his son, Joseph, Jr.The case will be a very strange one. Several inonth ago young Joe sold his wife to Joe Badgeley, a neighbor; for $25, this including all of her clothe. The case was so remarkable, that, it received cornmet it in papers over the Central Stau.s. Not only was the sale made, but the wife delivered, and she lieed w ith her purchaser for -everil days before the law intern-red.
