The old law required that each prisoner should receive a new suit of clothes and Slo in monejT, The money feature is abolished by the new law, but the auditor was undecided as to whether or not the state was to still furnish the suit of clothes. It is the opinion of the attorneygeneral that the clothes must be supplied as heretofore. The very latest in circumventing the Nicholson bill is being worked in Anderson with success. Terrible Tragedy.

Dunn of this city, ; was rudely distributed yesterday,, when W. B. Colvin, a well known j attorney of Martin county, shot ) and instantly killed Rev. Josiah Stevens, also a well ! known resident of that county. Colvin shot live bullets into his victim's body any one of which would have caused death. This deplorable allair was the outcome of a law suit. Stevens in connection with his mi'isteral dut ies holds the office of Justice of Peace. Colvin went to Shoals, after the bloody affray and surrendered to the sheriff. ELLKTTSVTLLK. Sale street presents a busy appearance. Main street was the scene of a runaway Wednesday noon. A team belonging to F. M Stephenson which was standing in fiont of nis store became lightened and made quick time "goii g west" until near the Baptist church when they ran against a tree and disengaged themselves from the wagon, and proceeded in a still faster gait.
