The county commissioners in session yesterday morning granted license to the following parties to sell liquor under the old law: Troutman & DeMoss, Edward Roger?,James Kelley, Oscar Strother, Frank Sharp, Wm Johnson, and JqmesSbinn.

Mrs. Jonathan Bougher returned from Paoli Sunday where she has been spending the past week with her daughter, Mrs. Dr. Driscoll. Byron Smallwood Sundayed with friends in Sullivan, Ind. James Payne was in Bloomington Monday. Mrs. Ella Sherlock and Miss Jennie Tilley attended the wodV ding of S. A. Gaver and Miss Hitchcock at Bedford Wednesday. J D Kinser was in Bedford Tuesday-Mrs Hoi Woodward was in Bloomington last 'week the guest of her parents. J T Nance was in Bloomington Wednesday on business. Dr Homer E Strain has rented rooms in the McGee block at Bloomington and will move there soon. Dr. Strain is a graduate in
dentistry, and a young man who will succeed. Dr. Amzi Hon was the guest of Dr JTJ H Hon, yesterday. ' Bertha Athey from Denver, Colorado, granddaughter of W W Pryor, West 6th street, is quite sick with measles. Mit-s Addie Malott, one of Bedford's charming society belle?, is the guest of Mr and Mrs John R Nugent, Ncrth College Avenue. Prof. M. W. Sampson has returned from Cincinnati where he delivered the address before the alumni' of the University of Cincinnati. Miss Ada Pearson was called to North Manchester by a telegram informing her of the death of a dear friend. She left yesterday for that city. Mr. R. W. Wylie and wife, who have bee.i taking treatment at the Barnard sanitarium, have returned to their home in Bloomington. Martinsville Leader. Misses Mollie Johnson and Ida Sims, of Bloomington, visited in Spencer the first of tho week. Miss Johnson was the guest of Miss Conie Seay. Spencer Democrat. Homer Renshaw, of Louisville, is spending a few days in the city. Homer is an old Bloomington boy and takes delight in looking over the old stamping ground of his boyhood days. Judge L V. Buskirk, wife and son have returned from a pleasant visit to Mrs Buskirks' parents at West Newton. The Judge has increased in weight seven pounds during the vacation. Horace Blakeley, Smi Hunter and Otto Rogers dug fifteen pounds of bait, bought twenty-seven poles, eighty-two hooks, three seines and two pounds of bacon, and drove over to Sanborn, Knox county, fishing. They have promised their numerous friends ten pound of brain food each when they return. The time they will spend in carrying out this contract is just six days or one week.
ARRESTED.
Three Youug Men of this City Taken to Indianapolis Last Might. The Deputy United States Marshal and his assistant arrested William (Tuck) Adams, Link Browning and Charles Leas last night on the charge of violating the U, S. liquors laws, and they were taken to Indianapolis on the midnight train. It is generally understood that this is the result of the Lexow-Owen investigation, and it is stated that other arrests will follow. They were accompanied to Indianapolis by John G. Harris, who goes as their attorney. The boys state that they are confident of an acquittal. The U. S. Marshal had warrants for the arrest of Oscar Strother and Audley B. Evans. Srother is at Lafayette on business, and will go to Indianapolis today, and Evans will go from Frankfort. It makes the Bloomington World feel so joyful whenever a ball team of that city wins a game, that it devotes half a column of space to tell about the wonderful performance. Martinsville Leader. Browsing, Secretary The county commissioners de cided yesterday that the propos ed road from the Iron Bridge, on the North Pike, to the Johnson ford should bi built, and th?t the damages which amounted to three hundred and forty dollars, should be paid one half by the county and one half by the petitioners. Hugh Marlin entertained the commissioners and the audience with a fiery address cigainst building the road. There were more than fifty farmers present, who live near the proposed road, and the majority of them were in favor I of the road. The men who were taken to Ind ianapolis Tuesday night on warrants from the U S Court, returned last evening. They were released on their own bond to appear before the court when sent for, which will hardly be before September On their arrival the men were released and told to go to their hotel and appear at the U S Marshal's office at S o'clock, at which time they were permitted to return home The assessors of Bloomington township have reported the follow ing statistics for the past year: .V mount of eggs sold 16,395 dozens; milk, 103,171 gallons; butter, 20,195 pounds; chickens, 124 dozens; turkeys, 297 dozens; number of apple tvew, 4,544: dogs given in 124, in the city 84. Another Alleged Counterfeiter to Face Uncle Sam's Bar of Justice. Deputy U.S. Marshals Agnew and Collins arrived in the city yesterday morning. After breakfast they drove to Salt Creek township and arrested Jack Pennington on the charge of counterfeiting and brought him to this city and placed him in jail. Young Pennington is about 25 years of age and is very well known in this county. Last fall Pennington was arrested on the same charge, but the jury failed to agree. The U. S. Marshal said that there was a strong case against him. The officers left for Indiauapolis last night with their prisoner. He was one of the five indicted by the last Federal Grand Jury. This is certainly proof positive that the city is on tho boom.

Miss Ura Sanders of Gosport, is spending a few days in thl city, a guest of Miss May field East Third street. Mrs. Gertrude Romizer, of Charleston, Ills., arrived last evening and is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Feltus, College Hill. Richard L. Stephens has sold 240 acres of land in Salt Creek township to J. C. Kennedy, of Areola, Ills. Price paid $5,500 cash. Sells Bros, have sued J. A. Bailey, of the Barnum & Bailey circus for 150,000. They claim that Bailey published libelous bills alongside the show paper of Sells Bros.'
