It is one of the most important documents ever penned by the president, and already the politicians are figuring on its effect on the next campaign. The death yesterday of Charles H. Mansur, Assistant Controller of the Treasury, makes another vacancy to be filled bythe president, and the wires have already commenced to warm up under the weight of messages. By this evening they wih be red hot, and tomorrow new wires will have to be put in. News came to Washington that peace had at last been restored .be tween Japan and China. Hon. John W. Foster, confidential adviser to the Chinese Peace Envoy, telegraphed his wife that the treaty between the two countries had been signed. John W. Foster, who has played such an important part in this settlement is a graduate of Indiana University. VbbiiM Of Untold Wealth. Martinsville Leader. Bloomington labored earnestly and faithfully to Secure artesian mineral water, and has two big holes in the ground as mementoes of her failure in this respect. The other day coal oil was discovered in an abandoned well in that place, and now the inhabitants have visions of untold future wealth. How the find will pan out, is yet a matter of doubt. With a good development of oil in addition to hrr excellent stone resources, Bloom ington may in time com pete with Martinsville as an attractive centre. 1. U. And 51lent Hoosiers. The I. U. baseball team will play the 'Silent Hoosiers" of the State Institute for th Education of tjie Deaf, Friday afternoon, April 19th The game promises to a very interesting and amusing. So far the "Silent Hoosiers" have been victorious in every game save one with the regular Butler University team which resulted in a tie.Every one should attend this strange game and learn something of the wonderful language of signs. It will no doubt be the most amusiDg game of the seasom. After A Year. (S. Cornish Watkins in Longman's Magaanc) The slender lilies nod their hearts On either side the garden-way. And all along the flower beds Tall foxgloves stand in fair array : The throstle, in the pear tree near. Still carols, as when first we rume. The same old song he sang last3'ear. And we. we are no more the same. How strong the lilies smell: How neat The ordered rosebuds, row on row: It's still the scene that seemed so sweet A year ago a year ago. We noticed how that apple bough Stood out so green against the sky: It's just as fair as ever now. But we are altered, you and I. The days ba e come between us two And moved us ever more apart: We can not. as we used to do. Tell to each other all our heart. Only a year since last we met. But in that year what things have been : We walk, we talk, together yet We can not bridge the gulf between. All looks unchanged, save us alone. We've drifted into other ways: Time turns the page, the past is gone And naught restores the vanished days. The flying hours new scenes reveal. We never fancied, you and I. They could come when we should feel iTo longer sad to say good-bye.
