South Park has a slander suit wherein Mrs. Ab Anderson sues Mrs. Heg wood for accusing her of r stealing some eggs. This is rather egijstraordinaTy proceeding. ; Andrew Hale, who lived here six or eight years ago, and was employed at Showers' old factory, has heen arrested for robbery in Terre Haute. Ilia reputation .when here was not the best.

shown. This year an increase of from $7,000 running up to $12,000 a month has been shown over corresponding months last year. Hereafter persons delivering wood at our house on subscription will apply in the house for a ticket, which, when presented at this office, will entitled the person to credit on our books. In the past so many have claimed they delivered wood, that we knew nothing about,- that hereafter we can allow no claims of the kind unless a ticket for each load is presented. Now is the time to bring in the wood, as we take no more after we have our winter's supply .; , In many places the merchants and others advertise their towns on
the back of the envelopes the use. It would be a good idea to help boom this town in that way. We can f urnished envelopes, or print
on those yon already have something like the following: Bibomington, Monroe county ,Ind. is on the Louisville, New Albany & Chicago Railroad, 100 miles North of Louisville. It is the seat of the Indiana University, and has a population of 4,50b.Has excellent Btreets electric lights, steam fire department, eleven churches, a $30,000 school building, three newspapers, extensive manufactories, large and handsome stores, and in is in the heart of the great stone field. Over 300 houses were built here during the past eighteen months."
ment are large gains in earnings! principles I believe in. I believe
that the protective duties,so called, protect capital, but not labor,
and that even this protection to capital is undesirable in tho long run. These issues are sharply divided between the Democratic and Republican party, and those who believe as I do must join the Democratic party. I am a firm believer in the pension system, but it has been prostituted until you cannot tell whether a pensioner was a brave man or a cowardly deserter. You cannot tell whether he received an honorable wound or contracted catarrh twenty years after the war was ended. I would do everything in my power to get to vote again for Grover Cleveland for he did what he could to restore the pension system to an honorable standing. I have heard a good deal about the dire results to Harvard College it its President joins the Democratic party. I am glad to sy that the bene
factors of Harvard College belong to both parties and every phase of religion; moreover, the graduates o Harvard College
highly respect any man who
forms his opinion intelligently, expresses that opinion with
moderation, and has the courage
of his convictions."
It is a fair assertion that the Republican party has hardly ever been in as demoralized a condition as it is to-dayl No just revision of the tariff can be expected ot a Republican Congress. Anything like justice from it would throw the manufacturing fat into the fire, and there would bo no more Republican Congresses or Presidents.

Republican majority will be largely cut down and the Democrats will make gains in the
legislature, and that is the best
we can reasonably expect, although some enthusiastic Democrats over ther 3 are claiming a good deal more.

whit the Republican party
preached during the late, elec

time down in the Second Congressional District over the scramble lor the Government appointments. The Washington Gazette, the Republican organ of Daviess county ,said last week: No sound judgement has been shown in scarcely any Second District appointment. More than one directly insulted the worthy Republicans, and one at least is not only injurious to the party, but is personally discreditable :to the President.
