Marriage licenses has been issued to the following named persons : Levi Freeman and Mary Pierce, L. H. Constable and Agnes Small wood, A. J. Hays and Sarah Deckartl, Irvin Cleeuner and Lanra Beggar, Jacob -Breeden and Ida Sparks, Anthony C. Coyle and Daisy Todd, Eddie R. MeKnight and Lizzie B. Hayi, Thoa. B. CfAlloway died anddenly at bis residence on Morton street last Tuesday afternoon. He was
the father of Mrs. James Karsell of
this city, and was prominently indentifiettiwith the prohibition party. His funeral was preached at the U. P. Church, by the Rev. S. R. Lyons, Friday. Deceased was overyears of age. k A correspondent at Harrodsbnrg signing himself "Protection," has a communication in Tuesday's Telephone criticising the Courier's article last week on the employment of our home band. "Protection' says that subscriptions was solicited from all parts of the county to pay the expenses of the re-union. That may be all true. The point made by the Cocrim was that the money to hire our own band could be raised here if tried. :If 'Pn tection" had gotten up a subscription at Harrodsbnrg and brought their band up with the delegation from therey he would have helped the re-union out considerably, and at the same time "protected" home industries, which1' "Protection" is innocent enough to believe is purely Republican doctrine. . The Wallace A Co. show was in this neighborhood last week. .The papers ate all highly enthusiastic in 'its praise. The Martinsville Gazette says: Wallace A Co.s circus and menagerie exhited in this city on Tuesday, and drew an immense crowd of people of all ages, conditions, sizes and sexes. The show was a good one, generally speaking. The animals embraced a very flee collection, aud their appearance indicated good keeping. A finer lot of horses never traveled on our street. The . Martinsville Republican saysf "; y Wallace A Co.'s big parade, which took place this moning at 10 :30 o'clock without doubt, eclipsed any other exhibition which was ever on our streets. The procession was near a half mile in length, consisting of two bands, a steam caliope
and about fifty cages of animals.
The horses were magnificent; all
big, fine sleek Normans, and made
a splendid appearance. The Spencer Democrat says :
The Wallace & Co;s Circus and
Menagerie which exhibited here yesterday attracted an enormous
crowd,, and the canvass was crowded at both performances. The
street parade was one of the grand-
est Spencer has witnessed for many years. This is oW of the best

A queer lot of people they are indeed if they refuse to buy books at half price just because a Democratic law makes it possible for them to do so, We suspicion that a partisam school board does not give them the apportunity. If such is the case, they can be foiced to adopt the new books, as the law is compulsory. Uniirersity Items. )' .
