There was absolute!5" no excuse for such a blander, which is only iu keeping wit'i the appointment of James Frnz, in Owen county, afew months ago. Had it been know before election that Gen. Harrison contemplated such a policy w-t he v24o majority from Monroe county, that wan secured for him by tremendous effort, would have been more in
keeping with the voice from his ow:i home. That settles it with Mr. Harrison. ... ... He's a goner for a second term Without the support of the official or;an and the pap hunters bfMorirdc county he cannot be re-elected. In the language of the above article, the M5 majority of Monroe county wi 1 hereafter be more in keeping with the result last fall in President Harrison's own county, which gave a large Democratic majority. But what the Telephone says,4s not only its own words. lb bui- cchos what is on the lips of an army of kickers and place hunters in this county. And why do they weep? Simply because over four months of the new administration have passed ar d not'd. man in the county has been appointed to an office (except the county Postoflices,) and, what is worse, there is hardly the slight est hope that any ever will be. "No man should deprive his wife and family of a good local paper.
They do not get out from home to
learn the ubwe as does the husband aad father, and the newspaper serves to relieve the otherwise lonely hours of its absence. It is the worst kind of economy to deprive the family of a good local paper. A singular accident happened to the wife of Frank McPhetridge one day kst week. She was attending to her chickens - when a rooster ... made a savage attack on her striking her with its spurs in the face, one spur being broken off and left buried in the flesh. The wounds were extremely painful, but not serious. Frank fired about twenty shots1 at that-old rooster before he could kill it.

Oh, the fiot.ncing, bouncing bustle, the heaving, weaving bustle, the plump well rounded bustle that the maid of fashion sports. How it jerks and quakes and quivers, how it shakes the isouls -and livers of the ul tram odest folks. When extended and expanded beyond the size demanded, and upon which good taste and fashion cordially agree, 'tis a snare and a delusion, an evilable illusion, and's conductive to confusion in a very high degree.
You Democrats have got the laugh on us bad, said a noted local Republican politician to the Courier. You have not enly got the laugh on us, but you arc also getting the offices. Another Democrat was appointed this week, said he. He. is from Brown county, and his name is A. Donaldson, The Couisisn protested that Mr. Donaldson could not consistently be a Democrat when he was Secretary of the Republican Central Committee, but the talker insisted upon his point, and added that no genuine Republican could get an office. Said he further : We used to laugh at yon fellows about MeGee coming over here from Brown and feeding on fat offices all the time, but another Democrat comes over hero; flops over to the Republicans and after being a standing candidate for every thing in sight ever since he has been here finally gets an office, and men who have been life-long Republicans and who have spent their money and done the dirty work of the party are expect to approve of it, aud keep silent for fear of injur ing th party, I would rather straight out Democrats should have the offices, and hereafter I am in favor of appointing t iem. Get me up .a petition, and I will get nine-tenths of the Republicans of this tojvxt to sign it to retain the present Postmaster until his time is outr and after that I am in favor of appointing him for four years more. It would bo in keeping with the appointment of Pittman and McGinnis, than whom two more radical politicians and wire-pullers never lived. "Offensive partisan," is a mild name for it. I tell you there is going to be hell on the Wabash the next campaign. We are loaded to the brim, and are going after. Republican scalps, local and otherwise.

And now comes the Courier along with the argument that the Republican administration, is responsible for the condition of the starving-Clay county miners. Evidently i has not lieard of the dis covery ofmatural gas. Telephone. By the above the Telephone means tjat the use of natural gas has caused a falling ofjr in the demand for coal. During the last campaign, when the miners of Clay county had but little work, the Democratic papers attributed the cause to the use of natural gas, but the Republican papers claimed that it was :V$p account of the Democrats tin kerg with -the "tariff'9 The miners believed it and voted for
