of firemen, police and citizens, who

made every effort to check its course

without avail. It is belieyd that the

fire originated from stumps of cigarettes

ARKANSaW ELECTION PUAUDS. The federal authorities think now that the theft oi the Plummervilie, Art. ballot box on the night of Nov. 6, is at last cleared up. It will be remembered that while the judges were counting the vote that night five masked men entered the room, and presentng their pistols, demanded the box and ballots. Of course they got them, but for montbB it was impossible to get a clew as to the perpetrators of the outrage. Two weeks

ago last Sundav a young man named

Warren Taylor was arrested on a charge

of interfering with election officers at

Plummervilie. He got scared and went

before the grand jury, arid there gave evidence which has led to clearing up

the mystery. He testified that he was in a crowd of young men who went from Morrilton, the county seat, to Plummerviile, that night, as t hey understood it, to preserve poae, as trouble was expected. When the crowd arrived at PlummerviJle they were halted on the outskirts, and five men rode into town. Presently they returned and repoited "everything all QnietV and the crowd returned. On t'ao way to Morrilton the five men gave it out that the

Plummervilie ballot box was in the crowd. The box was tiken into Wolfs store, at Morrilton and burned. This confession of Taylor's was the means of having a large number of witnesses from Conway county summoned before the grand jury. Thursday, just before the grand jury adjourned, two indictments were returned, and it proved that these indictments were for the Plummervilie ballot box theft. The men indicted are: 0. T. Bentley, Walter P. STORMS IN THE EAST. A terrific wind storm, followed by a heavy rain, visited Southern New York, eastern Pennsy lvania, Maryland, Delaware, Connecticut and Massachusetts, !ridy. Many buildings were wrecked and telegraph wires blown down. At Fair Haven, Conn., men were buried in the wreckage of a new house, while tweiatythree working outside were hurled through the air with fatal results to some and severe injury to all. A t Point of Boes, Md, twenty-five men who were working on the trestle over the river were swept off into the water sixty feet below, and at Palmyra, Pa., many

houses are m rums, and the inmates

Three cages of animals were overturned an antelope was killed and the trumpeting of elephants caug:ht under falling canvas caused intense fright and confusion. Manv of the performers, men and women, were Bhockingly hurt. There a re many stories of barns wrecked byJighfcnirig and numbers of animals killed. Several churches in the trail of the storm have been ruined. In New York the wind played havoc with signs and on the crowded streets there was a panic among the pedestrians, many of whom were severely injured.

A GANG LEGALLY HANGED. The three Bald Knobbers, Dave Walk er, better known in Christian couunty as "Bull Cre ek Dave," chief of the Bald

Knobbers, his son, Wm. Walker and John

Matthews, were hanged at Ozark, Mo., Friday for the murder of Charles Green and William Edens on March 11, 1837.

At 9:53 the drop fell, John Matthews fell praying. The stretch of the- rope let all fall to the ground. The rope broKe and William Valker fell loose find groaning. He talked for three minutes, when he was taken up by the sheriff and deputies on the scaffold. Dave Walker was drawn up and died in about fifteen minutes. Matthews lived about thirty minutes, and died with his feet on the ground. The scene was horrible in the extreme. Matthews and Dave Walker were cut down at 10:10. The trap was again adjusted, and William Walker lifted helpless and groaning and gurgling and almost insensible, and the rope again adjuste l and the trap again sprung. This time in the descenthe came to a sudden stop with his feet fully thirty inches from the ground, and he died without a struggle.

THE YALUE OF JLONGETITY. Dr. Felix L. Oswald, in writing of the value of longevity, says: "Can there be a doubt that Burns and Keats foresaw tho issue of their struggle against bigotry, or that Cervantes, in the gloom of his misery could read the signs of the dawn presaging a sunburst

of posthumous fame? - .

"Spinoza and Schiller died at the

threshold of their goal; Pacal, Harvey,

Macauley, Buckle and Bichat left their

inimitable works half finished; Raphael,

Mozart and Byron died at the verge of

a summit which perhaps no other foot

shall ever approach. " ' '

"Who knows how often, since the a V . . .... a

death has palsied a hand that had all

but lifted the veil of TsiV temple? Oi

in how many thousand lives times alone

would have solved all discords into harmonies? An increase of longevity

would indeed, solve the vexing riddles

of existence; it would furnish the pe

culiar endorsement of Mr. Matlock's conclusion. It would give the vicissi

tudes ol fortune a chance to assert their

equalizing tendencies, it would supply a

missing liuk in the arguments of that

natural religion that tru3ts the equi

poise of justice in the apparent caprir

ces of human fate. ...

"The price of longevity would redeem the mortgage of our earthly paradise"

and it can be prolonged and shoald be,

with care and the use of proper medf-

cine at the right time. , Owing to the stress;' th$ worry and

the annoyance of every day life tKerens no doubt but that tens of thousands of

men and women yearly fill premature graveSi Especially after middle life should a careful watch-be kept over one's physi cal condition. The symptoms of kidney disease, such as becoming easily tired, headache, neuralgia, feeble heart action, fiickle appetite? a ,tlplendid', feeling one day and an all-gono one the next, persistent cough, trouble in urinating, etc., should be diligently looked into and at once stopped through a faithful use of Warner's Sale Cure, which has cured tens of thousands of such troubles and will cure yours. Experiencing no pain iu. the region of the kidney's is no evidence that they are not diseased, as those great purifying organs have very few nerves of sen

sation, and oftentimes th kidnevs are

positively rotting and being passed away through the urine before the victim is aware he is suffering from advanced kidney disease, which is only another name for Bright's Disease. To preserve life and to be well while you live are two cardinal virtues, and it is time well spent to give thiB vital subject earnest and careful attention, and to use the knowledge acquired in a judicious and intelligent manner. tato. THE WORST WRECK, PHYSICALLY Of any Man this Country ever saw, I CUBED, Jackson Mice., October, 1885. Rheumatic Syrup Co" '. ; Gentlemen: In November, 1884, I was cut in the wrist by a broken bottle, from which I suffered extreme pain. I called a doctor who pronounced it sciatic rheumatism. He gave me a morphine injection in my right shoulder, which resulted in paralyzing my right side. . I was kept under the influence of morphine until last March. My right leg and arm had become badly withered and my joints were so stiff that there was but little action in them. About that time I discontinued the use of morphine. About six weeks ago I first heard of your Bheumatic Syrup and was advised to try it And here let me impress this fact upon your mind, that my right arm and leg were shrunken, paralyzed, and withered so much that I could hardly walk or swing alonir, and that but little, and attended with great effort and pain. Since I have been taking your Syrup I have left off the use of crutches entirely, and only use a cane, and for the past few days I often forget it and walk without any aid. To say that I am happy, and that it has greatly benefited me, but poorly expresses my idea of your Rheumatic Svrup, Yours truly, CD. DENIO. Dealer in General Groceries, corner Trail and Mechanic Streets. Mr. C. D. Denio is a man well known in this community, and was probably the worst wreck, physically, of any man this country eve r saw. He was paraly zed

from rheumatic poison, and no one ever

expected he would get wen. ne is

well, and it is simply marvelous. The above statement made by him is true,
