In other words, a number of mesi blindly put their names to a paper charging the applicants with bei a drunkards gamblers fend companions of prostit utes, Vfiien very f ew o I them were person ally acquaintedw ith the applicants, it was rather serious business, and a rash step for these men many ot them ;being among our best citizens to taxe, . Two of the Com missioners-G i 1 more and Fulford ruled that 5 t!ie charges
must be made specific, and as that
con hi not be done, a number of the charges were stricken out. The case of T. C. Whieniui:.d as first
called, and a numberf of our best citizens vrere called vFho testified 3 that Mr, Wbisitand wsm known as a f sober, industrious and good citisen ; and yet one of the charges was Mr. f Yhisnand was fa tUel ahit of get Tting intoxicated. The-"Jom mission1 ers promptly granted the license.

the next case, and Mr. 8 took well was granted license without further
opposHion. Mr. ulrord, Kepr.bli-
4 can, voted for license! and he has j been, roundly denouncetl by some of h is own party. Mr. Wi i ford, and
the other Commissioners, have sworn to do their dutyi, and the law say it is their duty to s;rant liquor license to the proper pwsons and in the hearing of these cases there was nothing to show that the applicants were not proper persons. The effect of gra n tingtof license to saloons will be watched with interest. The CouniKn has held all along that it would be better to license the saloons and cot thau much money for the school fund, as the saloons have for years been openly selling liquor withoutticense with
out scarce! Jr any snort to stop them
or disorder than there has been. License the saloons, and make them track the law, and who a that is done the majority of the people will be satisfied, for we have: an excellent liquor law in indianaj and it yrpsi passed ,by a Democratic legislature.
