It is interesting to know that Judge Turpie has been drawing the salary as Senator while neither of the claimants from West Virgina has received any

thing from the United States Treasury on Senatoral count. This fact was assertaihed by an Enquirer representative to-day. As the statute provides that the Senators must be certified by the Prasident of the Senate, it would appear that Sena tsr Ingalls has officially recognized Judge Turpie. The names of both appear on the a?e and urfy list of the Senate yhich has just been printed for the roll-calls on votes &e.

The tests which have so far been made wtn woman's suffrage have not been crowned with any very brilliant results. An interview .with aKansas gentleman recently brought forth this statement : "We are sick of it. I beUeved in it to begin with, but doesn't wrork. One trouble is there are but few of the .better .uomen who will vote, and thosa who do, want some immaculate candidate, who can't by any possibility be elected, and they will vote for him and splits the ticket. The doubtful and objectionable woman vote, every one of them, while hardly one-tenth of the better class of women go to the polls, and this in-

jevitably elects the worst candidate

As the majority of the women whose votes1 are desirable don't care for the franchise, I want to see the law repealed," The danger and the weakness of this cause-lies in the fact that comparatively fow women want to vose. Women are not ready for it. The demand must be universal before the result can be satisf a ctory . Wo m a 11 must be ed u cated up to a desire for the right of suffrage be fere policy can make any claim for a hearing. The aboue clipping was taken from Every Saturday, a weekly pa

i per published in Elgin, 111.

The people about here gave thanks for a good rain Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week. . Lamb, the non com pis mentis house-breaker, pleaded guilty to the robbery at Robt Henry's, and sentence was deferred. He formerly lived in Polk township.
