The tropic of Brown county are w'ikl with joy over ihe prospect of getting a railroad. The Nashville Democrat of last week says: There is a good reason to believe that work will be commenced on this road within the bounds of Brown County this A.utumn. Then the laboring men of the county will have
an opportunity of steady work for some time at good aud sure wages, and after the road shall be completed a very large number of men of our county will find employment in connection with it and nothing but good can result to us from the buildLug of the road.
fPe arc glad. We see the dawn of the New Era in the history ot our county, and the halo about the rising sun of our coming prosperity is resplendent. What a change will come with the advent of the pulling and roaring locomotive engines and the rumbling of the freight trains!! and the click
of the telegraph instruments at the principal stations ! ! From New York City to St. Louis a Grand Tru nk Rail way no little feeder, but one of the most import ant trunk lines of the whole Union!! This is what we have voted for,
and we shall receive our compensation.

There is nothing surprising in the fnct that a few Republican member the G. A. R. should get together and pass resolutions censuring a Democratic Presi

Deaiociratic members of the Post here, but, being in the minority, they can only protest against the aiempt of afew partisans to

A careful survey -of thfc field convinces us that Hon. Courtland G. Jfatson is the most available candidate mentioned in connection with the Democratic nomination for Governor in 1888. As a member of Congress from the Fifth District he has been instrumental in forwarding the adoption of many general laws bearing upon the material interests of all classes of citizens. Hxb services have always been at the command of his constituents, re
gardless of political aOiliation, and in their behalf he has labored continually, not only in the halls of legislation, but in the many Departments of Government, a fact that can be attested by hundreds in this Cfunty-and district 2fis unswerving fidelity to his comrades in the late, war has gained for him a National repu tation as the ablest and most successful advocate -the old veterans have ever had in
Congress.
He has been the recipient of many
tokens of respect and admiration
from the wage-workers of the country, and is regarded by them as one
of their staunchest friends, a fact
that should have especial bearing in
the selection of a standard bearer.
He is a representative of all the
good qualities of an available candi
date. His Democracj' is broad and liberal keeping constantly in view
the best interest of those whom he
represents.
The Democrats; can afford to make
no mistakes in the selection of candi
dates for the campaign of 1888. Ind
iana on a full fair vote is Democratic, and the party can win with any
good man as standard-bearer, but in
the nomination of Courtland C. Mat-
son our victory would be doubly as

booUs nearly 500 names of ub- J
scribers viho arc behind with their subscriptions from a few cents to several dollars. Persons unhesitatingly pay in advance ior city papers they do not expect lo get them, nor can they get thorn, in any oilier
way. Then why not pay in advance for your home paper? It needs it probably ten times worse than the city paper. Country printers cannot afford
to advance money for blank paper and lor work to furnish newspapers to persons who are indifferent about paying for them. A man could as reasonably be asked to start a grocery store and let his goods jjo to all customers in weekly installments
After August 3 st, no name will be placed on our books until the subscription is paid for any length of time the paper is desired, and also after that date all names will be dropped as soon as the time paid for expires. No one can rightfully be offended at this plain, simple business proposition. We may lose a few subscribers by it, but better that than furnish a number of copies of the paper to persons who never pay. We have given fair warning. There is plenty of time between now and the first of August to square up and join our army of paid up subscribers
We don't want to lose any
of our old friends, and we hope they will take advantage of the
timely notice, as we assure all
that we mean business.
With a list of cash paying
subscribers, the Courier can be,
and will be, made a better paper than ever.

.Kureka Springs, Ark., June 24, 1887. .... Editor Progress Myself and wife are rusticating lb r a few weeKa hee, drinking the purest water pt-rhafs in: America. This is a mountainous country, similar to Brown county. Tho hills are ; covered with timber, such as grows in old Monroe, except beech, with pine and cedar, wh ortlc berries, &c. The city claims 8,000 inhabitants. The streets are laid off . to meet all points of tho compass, or with mountains and gulches. We have one hotel that cost $200,000 two others that cost 60,000 each, and perhaps 100 cheaper hotels anjl boarding houses. Buurd and lodging ranges from $3.00 to $30.00 per week. owing to the amount of dog" you wish to put on. .We have a greater variety, and abundance of fruit and vegetables here than any place I ever saw outside of California. There is said to be fifty-two springs inside the city limits water -nearly all the same, as tested by analvsis. Invalids from
all parts of tho United. States are here
winter and summer testing their virtues. We have a meeting once a week in which all are expected to tell of benefits received, so we get the evidence not from hearsay, but from the witnesses themselves. All diseases of the kidnpys, even to B rights diseased f the worst type, dyspepsia even to ulceration of the stomach, liver trouble, rheumatism, cancer, and all except lung and throat disease, is speedily relieved and permanently cured. . Tho most remarkable of which is a deaf and dumb, man here only six weeks who now hears and talks. Some persons come hundreds of miles, stay all night and go--bttcl5-"on the next train, others test the water, buy property and remain. There is not a saloon in the city. I have been here near six weeks and have not seen a person I thought was under the influence of liquor. I have hoard but one man swear, have not hoard of a robbery or theft. I believe all the religious denomination represented in Uloomington have houses of worship here, together with the several secret orders. A more sociable iriend ley people I never met. ' ' WAL R.
