Qcebn Vic celebrated the Fiftieth anniversary of her reign9
last Tuesday. There was much rejoicing, but it was net shared in by many poor, downtrodden people in Ireland The real estate boom of Kansasyit is said, has even invaded the pulpit. One of the preacheis"of that State, it is reported lately took his text from "Block 3Jo. 4, lot No. 5, Matthew's addition to the New Testament"
FROM KANSAS, Editor G'oukxek: We landc-U in Pratt, June 2d, without acridfut. This is a benutitul country, it is mostly wild prairier round here though some ot the land is under cul ti vatipn and crops looks prosperous; harvest will commence here this week- wheat is good here, though
short strawed. I notice several good
iieids of wheat, one field of 800 acres on the east of Pratt especially. Pari of this field is plated and the streets
graded on it. There is a railroad running through the south end of towu, and the Rock Island is being graded through the North end of the town. Piatt, the town, is 1 mile from North to South and I -J mile from East to West, there is 2000 inhabitants here now, there are 12 or 15 families here living in tents and wagons waiting for houses; there are 25 or 30 houses under construction now for dwellings and 6 or 8 foundations being laH for business Micks, and hotels, ail brick houses. fFe have 4 church houses but It and being built now; we have a $10,000 sehool house hcie already complete ; we have good water works and plenty of well water. There will be a round house and shop built here this summer on the Rock Island road. We have had plenty of rain here since we came; it has raineil every. . other day. The Ninseseah river runs through the south part of the town plat, a stream that affords avast number of fish; we have a dog town 3 miles south by 1
mile west of town ;we visited it to-day and was treated to a gentle shower of rain and lots of wet grass to walk
back through. Pratt is destined to
a goodftown in the near future.
The sound of saws and hammers are
heard in a 11 parts o( town every d ay
except Sunday. . Men can all find
employment here at something and
at good wagrs if they will work. Board is from $4 to $6 per week here.
Corn 40 cts potatoes $2 to $3 per
bushel, land from $12 to $200 per
acre.

v The Telephone of thia weeks
relieves itself of considerable bile over an order from the War Department at Washington to turn jover to tbe proper States, if ibey Wiesirt them, the flags captured during the Jate war. The order rwas made by Adjutant General Dru m who is a Republican and .has . held his present position for y ears. The President ' at first approved the order, but after considering the matter, withdrew lb is consent as the disposition of the flags is a matter in the hands of Congress. It seems that the
flags are stacked away in the garret of the war department,
and a good way to get rid of
them would be to make a Fourth
: of July bonfire put of them They
consist of flags captured from
the rebel troops, and flags cap
tured from? the- Northern troops
und it, was proposed to restore
v all of them to the States from whence they -originally came.

that be will take it back, as he
-says in the same paper that Tobe

is digested we should look for a
