Th'c event of the week among the

ladies especially was tho display of

artistic needle-work mado bv the

White Sowing Machine Uo. at the store of their Ageut, Peter Bowman. It scorned almost incredi&ble that such work could bo done on a sewing machine, but.it was and on the Whi t Machine. There was a lady there, Miss May Lewis, to demonstrate the fact by performing the work right before your eyes. There has been a great rage here for Kensiglon work done by hand, but at this display, the ladies were given an opportunity to sec how ne&tly and artistically such work can be done by machine. Then there were curtains, noticrres. tidies, splashers.

screens, scarfs, spreads, vablc covers, etchings, scrolls, birds, &c, all in elegant designs. There was uti splasher there that looked like a crayon drawing, but proved to be executed on the machine with common black thread. Another design

looked like an od painting only it was better executed than man1 but a close inspection showed that it was done in silk bv the White machine. The exhibition., closes today, and thn the. White Machine will be the talk of the town among the ladies.
