et. But it all had no effect on the election. The fact is-so one reads the Telephone until' about the time at night they aro ready tp be put to sleep3 and at tiiat hour on Tuesday night, of course everybody had voted.
i The editor of the Telephone got the band to surprise him with a serenade Monday, night for the galorious work the wbrgan" had done for the party. The editor made a speech, in which ho eulogized (he workingmen for voting the Republican ticket As the candidate the workingmenwore: suppose'! to be making a special effort tor rereeeived but four majority in a town that should give over two hundrod, it seems that the workingmen were-not very unuinious In their Support of the gepublic an ticket. .

it has Dean often saiu that you can prove anything by the bible; and it is a universally recognized fact that a shrewd lawyer can find legal opinions and authorities favoring any side of any kind of a case. Mr. Louden is a very shrewd lawyor and he might fill the columns of many newspapers with opinions backing up his side of the case. Of course the authorities he quotes must be shrewdly . manipulated. We know of a case in oourt "where a lawyer read an opinion favoring his side.,
HoKl on ! says the lawer on the other side give me that book." He took the book, and finished read-
j ing the same opinion and it proved
to be a strong "argument in favor of his std of the case. Mr. Londen's quotations from legal authorities in this ease reminds u 3 of a story thatsfom Cobb once told in court to illustrate how an opposing attorney managed his case. It was the time Chignons "were in fashion. The ladies procured long switches of artificial hair and coiled- them up on the top of their heads A minister determined to preach a sermon on the foolish fashion, and when he occupied the pulpit on the following Sunday hogtobk for his text these words: ''Top-knot, come down!" He thenj scored the chignon fashion most unmercifully. After the sermon was over, several of the Deacons surrounded the
minister to congratulate him, and at the same time to .express their astonishment that they had never seen the words of the test in the bible, from which book the minister
had quoted it. To satisfy them, the minister turned to a verse which read about like this : "Let he who is on the house top not come down." He had used for his text the last three words of the verse, v z; "top not come down." Now that is about the way Bro. Louden quotes law to back up the Grimes case..

The Telephone sputters a good deal this week about the "citizen's" ticket being a democratic scheme gotten up to defeat the republican
ticket, and goes on in its usual dic
tatorial manner to tell the voters what to do and what not to do. There is something radically wrong in the management of the G. O. P. when life long republicans go back on the republican ticke t. It is time
the dictators boffin to read the hand
writing on the wail which announces the death and dissolution of this gang of would be leaders who think they have only to dictate and the remainder of the party in the county submissively bows its head to follow. It seems to think that all that is necessary to be done is to write an editorial or two appealing to the republicans to "stand by the noi&inee"(?) Republicans, be not "deceived," "Beware of the citizens ticket" and a few other powerful sentences like there and all will be well, and the entire ticket selected
by these grand-high-muck-a-mucks
will be elected. The result of Tues
day's election means something. It
means that there are honest republicans enough in the party who will vote for men no matter on what ticket their names may be, the croaking of the gang to the contrary notwithstanding-, it means that the good men of the party are getting tired of "ring-rule" and that it must go, CKBEK ITKH5. eoid Hoaa has moved his saw mill near this place and says when ho gets his bands trained, ha will show how faat he can saw dumber.
