A large audience composed of the best people of the city witnessed the Blind Tom Concert at the Opera House Thursday night. Tom, al though nearly 50 years of age, still sustains his reputation as being the greatest musical phenomenon that ever lived. His performance on the piano was simply marvelous, and seemed to bo prompted by some unnatural power. The audience was highly plea &cri with the entertainment.

If they would turn their attention to presenting sound arguments in favor of the strict observenee of some one day as Sunday, they would do much good. As it is, people go to church
on Sunday as a duty but in nine cases out of ten their observenee of the d ay ac cep ted by ne a rly all Christian people as Sunday ends there. In the larger cities Sunday is the biggest dav of the week for sport

Then the christian house-wives would do their cooking on Saturday, and Sunday would be fspent in attending religious worship and reading the bible; liut we have drifted away from those Godly days, and now wc satisfy our consciences by simply going to church. Hobiett. deceased. The Jud;c will i 'iday to wait oik us. A petition . i .....
was circulated not .long ago asking the authorities to enforce a; strict observenee of the Sabbath, but I suppose it w cut when all good petitions go in somebody's wastebasket. Then a noted divine preached against the desecration of the Sabbath, and especially mentioned the opening of the Postofilce on Sundays. That reminds me that last Sunday morning I was in front of the Postofltce (I had been in after my mail) when a newsboy cried out, "Here cesses the Methodist rush'' Abort that time a crowd began pouring down the avenue and nine out '$ ton went into the Postofilce. I asked the boy what he meant by "Methodist rush''
He said that about fifteen minutes after ten o'clock Sunday mornings the Methodists were principally on their waj- to church, and the most of them "rushed" into the Postoffice. "The other churches come in by degrees," explained the boy. 1 was surprised at this because in the Methodist Church is the very place where w sermon was preached regarding the observenee of Sunday. I like to get my mail on Sunday, and would "kick" hard if I couldn't get, I also like to get my newspaper and other little things, but; it must be understood that 1 am not so fanatical on the Sunday question that I wc-uid condemn a poor fellow, who has to work hard all the week, for sawing some wood or looking about for something to cat on that clay. With some, this working on Sunday is all right if they arc interested, but when it is done in the interest of others the so-called Sunday observer and church-goer holds up his hand in holy horror. As it is now, wc have two Sabbaths to observe. On Saturday and Sunday. Mr, Flee nor advocates one, and Mr. Williams the other. Such a
division goes far toward pi eventing
the observenee of any day as the Sabbath. At al I events, our churches and our Sunday Schools must be preserved, and we are getting along very well by trying to keep holy the first day of the week commonly called Sunday.
The certificates of slock of the Chicago & Siinesville Stone Co. arcnow being delivered to subscribers. Mr. J. S. Williams will leave for Chicago Sunday to place some stock there. The prospects for the Company are very bright. They have the dead for one of the best quarries in Indiana, one that has been worked and its stone pronounced to be the best found aiiTwhere. Switches will be laid to the quarries, and ail steps taken by the new companyto push business at once. There is still some shares of stock that can be had low by appl y to M r . men's, that going-up the mountain on is under fire a 5 severe as a Gores cannonade in a battle,. Prof. Gil-bert-, .2ef fckc Indiana University, was struck by one of t hese rocks, during the decent of Dr. Jordan's part". He was blinded by the coufu ;m and rendered partially insensible, which imperil e-d the witoie part;,', and ohlidgcl- one hair of them to remain over night with Prof. Gilbert in the upper hut, while the guides descended with the remainder. The ascent was begun at i o'clock a. m. and accomplished late in die afternoon, The summit is so narrow only four persons can rem tin upon it at once, and so dangerous from the "devil winds" that those who surmount it can
not stand an instant with safety, but must sit, and when, a gustor whirl-wind strikes them lay prone upon the mountain and clutch its side. The ascent was never made unt'l 1853, when three Englishmen named Parker surprised the native guides by ascending 12,008 feet, than mortal man had ever trod before. Prof. Tindall then began his repeated, desperate efforts to scale tan lofty cone. In 1807, in his thiul attempt, he ascended higher than his predecessors, but failed to

The ascent in now made easier by the cutting of steps for the feet along the paths, by the hanging of ropes in man' of the steeped places, and the erection of three huts. But live mountain is still a horrible one to climb, and very few attempt it. As to whether it pays, the lecturer would never try it again, but the 3 iblbne views of the summits of the Alps, the clouds and the Matter horn, which he always utterly
