neiniiistion as Jadge of this circuit. When Judge Wilson was elected in 1878, the vote showed that he was very popular in this section, he ear tying the county by a good majority. The advent of Judge Wilson upon the beach was the signal for a complete revolution in the manner of conducting the business of the courts in this district, and thousands ol dollars have been saved for the tax-payers. While he has always been known as an able attorney, his administration of the judicial affairs of this district has gained for him a place in the front ranks of the distinguished jurists of the State, besides gaining for him many new friends among the people whom he is serving. These remarks are suggested by the announcement of Judge Wilson's name as a candidate for re-nomination, and are not intended to disparage the claims of other able and worthy gentlemen whose names will no doubt be presented to the convention. s It is expected that Matthew Arnold will lecture in Bloomington some time this- winter. The Indianapolis J ouijnal recently said of him: It was the amiable Matthew Arnold who said in his article in the Niuteenth eniury upon

GMEisf mm aSmMm ISxeat Preparation for the Happy Eeat, The Courier took the advice itgave its readers last week and has been taking a stroll through Tobe Smith's Fancy Bazar. We can't tell one five thousandth part of what we saw there, nor did we see all, as an inspection of all the coiffents of this mammoth establishment would interest one for a whole day. Mr. Smith has kept a bazar for years, but never before was it stocked as it is now. fhe most valuable goods are, of course, in the jewelry and silverware department. Of thehtter, '$J,000 worth had just been received, and is now open for inspection. Then comes the fancy goods de

partment, which contains everything yon can think of that would properly come under that head. We noticed particularly some very handsome majolica

ware, and upon pricing some of

it, was astonished to find that it

could be bought for one-half

the price that was recently paid for the same thing in Louisville. The toy department i& a big thing. No wonder the children call Tobe Santa Glaus!
