One Grand University. The following, from the Columbus Democrat, contains &ome sensible sagesticujs, but to make the article complete the Democrat should have added that Bloomington is the place for the-.one grand University.'1 Here the State University was born, here it has Jived for over fifty years,

and here is the place for it to find a home forever and ihe probabilities

are very strong that it will. The Democrat says: uThore are at present in Indiana

seventeen colleges, whose courses of

instruction are almost identical. Knougli money is annually expended on them to Secure the finest educators in the world, and the capital invested in bulMiug, if consolidated, would erect one grand colossal institution which would be a credit to the btate and the pride of the people. Under the present system the colleges scattered about over the State are poorly attended, battling incessantly with starvation and suspension. A comparatively few students are graduated, and most of these have but a limited education, be

cause they were educated in an in-

stitutum where means were limited: hence the instruction was incomplete and the tutors inferior. Indiana pays more money than any other State to her educational institutions, yet these are so scattered about, and the appropriation so dwindled down to support them all, that the result f the State gets a poor return for the money compared to the good that could bo done, were the whole

amount expended upon one institution. If the State expects to keep apace with the church, she must look at once to some means of establishing colleges that can compete with them. In yfew of all these things, would it not be a wise policy for the State to sell all her pres ent educatioud institutions, ot convert them into fqme useful service and build one. grand University, and bring to its aid a corps of the btfc educators in the land? Let every department be complete, and provided with the latest and n pat im proved apparatus for imparting knowledge. Then would Indiana have an institution of which she could boast. Thousands ot students would fill her hails. Ins toad of, as

they now, file in solemn ranks into the lonesome walls of the different colleges of the State, they Won 1.1 then march in one powerful, endless

file, and when they en me forth, hv j

ing received the bnwSi of ail that such an endowed institution could bestow, they won 1.1 Cako tUwr places ns useful citizens of the Common wealth."'

assist his brother at Stinesville.

Lew has many "warm friends who wish him well in his new business. No one, as yet, has determined to sell goods hi Dunn's house. Beech Grove Sunday School has several earnest workers who try to remember that equality of people before the Creator is the grand road to success in establishing schools and churches. Mr. Beuoni Denny talked to the point last Sunday, Members of the Sunday School ought to remember that the Bible is not a book to be treated lightly' or handled deceitfully.- 1. N. A great deal of the corn, like the dar-

key's sinner, was cotched out late. Colleges, artesian wells and turnpikes are mighty good

things, but ii our county foots the bill for all these luxuries and should have to make up that ijnug little deficiency in the treasurer's office all at once, 1 think that old Monroe will be in a fair way to go under the hammer.
