Capt. Mart Alexander visited Martinsville and Spencer to look after some old fees due him as Sheriff. He collested enough to pay the expenses of the trip. Baker, the photograph car man, on Fee's corner, has checks which he claims are worth $33, 000. This amount he savR was
inherited from his grandfather's estate, in Virginia. We hear that he recently received a postal card warning him that he wras to be robbed of his weal th(?). The wouldbe robbers should bear in mind that checks are one thing and money is another. Checks are not worth a dollar a bushel, unless, there is money to back them. The Mitchell Camp meeting, which begins on August 16tb, promises to be the greatest affair of the kind that ever took place in this part of the state, and preparations are being made for tens ot thousands of visitors. Reader! have you borrowed
this paper of your neighbor? If
so, put it down, and go straightway and subscribe for one for
yourself. You are fond of reading the paper, but you haven't
soul enough to pay fer one of your one. You would rather sponge upon your neighbor and borrow his. There would be no newspaper to borrow if all men were like you for the printers could not afford to print their papers for the benefit ol borrowers, and would have to close their offices and go out of the business altogether. What should be thought oi a man who would make it conn venient, every , day about inoal
time, to drop in and seat himself
at his neighbors table? You might as well do that, as to avail yourself every week, of his intellectual food, without paying for it The mail arrives at the-postoifice the papers are opened &n$ disr
