Robert Overman, of Bedford, whom it is all egad had some ribs broken in the railroad accident uear 'Bedford last June, has received $150 damages at the hands of a Monroe county jury. The Bloomington Courier in an item last week advising its readers as to how and whereto make pleasure trips this summer to gee the sights without much expease, says in order to see Hades neonie should come to Bedford.

rel. Editor of the hisrhtoned, mor

al and religious family newspapers, like the Courier, do not go to such places. Bro. Gabe, however, visits Bedford frequently. He probably wants to acclimat himself for the future. A telephone company, composed of our own citizens, is now a tixed tact The contract with the Beecher Telephone Co. has been closed, and articles of incorporation have been prepared. A line is now in operation between Hughes' barber shop and the College. It has been tested by many, and all unhesitatingly pronounce it a first-class success. An opportunity will be given our citizens to take stock in this enterprise, which cannot fail to pay as money will be invested in boxes only as fast as they are de-

jmanded by renters. An imme

diate profit on the capita! invested is thus assured. The wire will be erected and the boxes

( placed in the residences or busin

ess places of renters at a rate much lower than that charged for other first-class instruments in other cities.

Bob Miers was the Judge in the case of Shanks against the railway, and he appeared perfectly at home on the bench Jack Dowden shipped two car bads of wheat from here last Tuesday. He paid $1.00 a bushel for it, and it went to Philadelphia. Of all the Coffees, Manilla takes the lead.. Rev. J. E.' Brant has been selected as the orator for Decoration day, and L. E. McKinneyas marshal. Wm. Harrold has returned from Kansas, but will go back, with his family, as soon as he can sell his property here. It is said that after persons plant rare flowers on the graves in the cemetery they are frequently stolen. A man or woman that would rob a grave of flowers is mean enough tor any thing. In the case of Shanks against the L. N. A. & C. railway, the jury brought in a verdict, last Monday, assessing the damages of the plaintiff at 8800. This is a case where a five-year old girl was injured by the upsetting of a loaded hand-truck, at Mitchell, about two years ago. Capt. Friedley appeared lor the railroad, and Moses R Dunn and John Rt East for the plaintiff. Mattie Small has returned from tiosport where she has been teaching school. Mrs. Fannie Young and family have returned from Florida. The burnt district is looming up. Ed. Mcfise wont te Cincinnati this week. This is a dull season for the item hunter.
