Never before have we known towns the size of Franklin, Mar-
iinsviile, Bloomington and Bedford to have such miserable newspapers. The papers at these places are not only poorly printbut their makeup is slouchy, They even present a more dilapidated generpl appearance than the Jacksonian, and that is useless. Nashville Democrat. The above is the opinion of an edl.or who has been in the printing business about three months, and, probaly, does not know the difference between an em quad and shooting stick. The Franklin and Martinsville papers, in typogra phical appearance, rank with the first papers in the State, while the Bedford papers are not tar behind. The Nashville Jacksouian is also neatly -printed. As for the Biooniington papers, ia speaking for the Courier, we can only say that its typographical appearance is not what we would like it to be, but it is the best we can atford. Newspipers, however axe like individuals; they should not be judge by appearances. What is in them tells the tale. You will often find plenty of brains beneath a sidachy hat The rapid approach of the close of the public schools ih this city is the occasion of great rparatibns on the. part of Jricuds asfi parents to witness the closing exercises. There is no better evideaco of interest in the cause of education than the .presence Gf parents on the last day of school and there is noth
ing that euoourages more the efforts of tha pupil?. There is a practice however in the public schools hare oferowdiagin upon the pupils in tire midst of their examinations, which we think is' injurious to the best interest of the pupils. These examinations, as at present -oondudtedy-are oral and in the prese t ee of an eager crowd of spectators t here is not one pupil in a hundred that will .do himself justice. He becomes
embarrassed and faus, in many i istanccon questions which are perfectly familiar under ordinary circumstances. This causes the parents to fell chagrined and not u litre pientiy tie teacher is blamed for not properly instructing iii the mibject examined. There seems but one remedy and that is to exeiu '.5 visitors from examinations entirely. It is of course quite the thing to invite everybody to fcfee closing exercises which are expected toffee anil are public. That's a common expression and has a world of meaning. How much suffering is summed up in it. The singular thing about it is, that pain in the back is occasioned by so many things. May be caused by kidney disease, liver complaint, consumption, cold, nervous debility, &c. Whatever the cause, don't neglect it Something is wrong and needs prompt attention. No medicine has yet been discovered that will so quickly and surely cure such diseases as Brown's Iron Bitters, and it does this by commencing at the foundation, and making the blood pure and rich. AVm. P. Marshall, of Logatisjrort, Indiana, vrues: " My wife has for many years been troubled from pain in her back and general debility incident to her sex. She has taken one bottle of Brown's Iron Bitters, and I can truthfully say that she has been 10 much benefited that she pronounces it the only remedy of many medicines she has tried.' Leading physicians and clergymen use and recommend Brown's Iron Bitters. It has cured others suffering as you are, a:;d it will cure you.
