Is not signing a pledge or taking a solemn oath that cannot be kept, because. of the non-removal of the cause liquor. The way to make a man temperate is to kill the desire for those dreadful artificial stimulants that carry so many bright intellects to premature graves, and desolation, strife and un happiness into so many families. Itisafact! Brown's Iron Ditte&s, a true non-alcohol' ic tonic, made in Baltimore, Md.,by the Brown Chemical Cotrpany, who are old draggists and in every particular reliable, will, by removing the craving appetite of the drunkard, and by curing the nervousness, weakness, and general ill health resulting from intemperance, do more to promote temperance, in the strictest sense then sny other means now known. It is a well authenticated fact that many medicines, especially bitters,' are nothing but cheap whiskey vilely concocted for use in local option countries. Such in not the case with Brown's Iron Bitters. It is a medicine, a cure for weakness and decay in the nervous, muscular, and digestive organs of the b ody , producing good, rich blood, health and strength. Try one bottle. Price Jim

Greeucastle Star-Press says: "During the past month there has been a large number of flattering notices printed in the columns of our Democratic contempories in
various portions of the State, urging the candidature of Hon. C. C. Mat-son, of this city, for Governor in 1884. These tokens of appreciation, good will and approbation, are well deserved. Mr. Matson is a sterling Democrat, a good citizen and well qualfied to make a winning
candidate and an able, fair and conscientious Governor of the State of Indiana, and we know that he appreciates very highly the confidence and good will of Democrats in urging that he be their standard-bearer in 1884; but, at the same time, he wishes us to say that he is in no sense a candidate for the nomination for Governor, nor does he expect to be.
