Bloomington is by no means

behd any town of its size in tM

W te in contributing fd thm re-

of the sufferers by the grat

d along the Ohio rirer. The 1 was started rolling by a citii's meeting at the Court-house t Saturday afternoon and

ht when the following relief

committee was appointed: Citr Roy. J. B. Brant, James Karseil, W. P. Rogers, D. W. Browning, Benjamin Voss, Joseph E. Henley and Aaron Rose. Country John Blair, Clint A Houston, C. C. Whisnand, Dr. Cites McLahian, Wm. Bunger, Samuel Peterson, Hugh Mariin and Thos. N. Fans. At this meeting a motion was -adopted that the ohurches be requested to take up collections en Sunday, for the benefit ot the Indiana sufferers by the flood. A motion was also adopted that the City Council of Bloomington be requested to donate $500. On Monday ladies visited each house in the city and requested donations of food, clothing, etc. and at the same time a paper for cask subscriptions was circulated The response was hearty and liberal- oh every hand. In fact, the cash subscriptions from citizens of Bloomington alone now amounts to fully 50 cents a head for every man, woman and child within the city limits. Not a town in the State of Indiana, outside of the Hooded disiricl, has dene so well. The depot for the collection of provision and cloth

ing: was at Collins & KarselFs store where the goods were packed and shipped. This work was principally attended to by Collias, Karsell, W. B. Baker, J. C. Doiaa, Chas. McMillen, Aaron lose, ft. ft Greaves and others. The following goods had been (shipped to New Albany and Jefforsonviile up to Thursday morn

ing, and at that time the contributions were still coming in: 40 cans of fruit; 565 loaves of bread; 30 pairs of boots and shoes; 20 pounds roasted coffee; 10 sacks of flour; 35 bed quilts; 4 sides of bacon: 67 bundles of elothmg for male and female; 10

The Citizens' Relief Committee

urge that there be no - falling ff

in the contributions, as the de

mand will likely continue for

some weeks. All oastors of

churches in the city and country are requested to make an appeal to their congregations next Sunday in this regard; Send all provisions and clothing to Collins k KarselFs store for nhipmenl On behalf of the Committee, A. B. Philputt, Sectctarj; The New Albany Ledger of Wednesday says: The people of Bloomington

have placed the people of New

Albany under enduring obliga

tions. No town in the entire

country has responded to the city's call for aid with more gen

erous liberality, both in money and provisions. Bloomington

acted with equal liberality and promptness in behalf of Jeffer

son ville. All honor to the gen

erous citizens of that beautiful

town; and should calamity ever

come to it which God forbid

New Albany and Jeffersonyille

will not forget the obligations the people of Bloomington has laid

upon them.

There is a sad story connected with the death of Cornell us O'Laugblin, a section boss on the L. N. A. & C. railway. It? went to -Greencasile on Tuesday of last Week and his wife came up from Louisville to see him. Wednesday morning he was preparing to go out on the road, and as he stepped to the fire to warm his gloves, he fell to the floor, almost knocking his wife down at the same time. An examination showed that he was dead heart

disease being the cause. His body was shipped to Louisville

Thursday accompanied by his wife. All the way down to the river his wife gave vent to her agonized feelings, and refused to be comforted by any one. At the river the corpse was taken in a skill to the ferry boat, which, owing to the high water, lay out in the stream. When upon the boat
