Chicago Tribune. The Swedish Lady Quartette sang before a very good audience last Monday night. Their music was very sweet entirely different from any concert singing ever heard here before and the audience was highly delighted. Miss Eda Eliel in her excellent" dramatic and humorous recitations
added much to the enjoyment of
the evening. While to a great extent the applause was earnest and enthusiastic, it was ne doubt a little more frequent in order to warm the chilled feat and hands of those in the audience.
Mr. James M. Sare writes us as follows, from Maryville, Mo:
"L have she pleasure of Dis

The meeting of the Alumni of
the State University, at Indianapolis, last week was held in the room of the State Law Library. Gen. McKee Dunn waa chosen President of the me. ting, and George W. Cooper, of Columbus, Secretary. There were nearly 100 persons present and the
meeting was haradsiou and enthusiastic. Major John B. Cravens, of Madison, of the Committee on Permanent Organization, submitted the following re
port: That it is the judgement of the Committe that we should petition the legislature to pass the bill creating an endowment lor the
University, leaving the other

General John W. Foster moved the adoption of tho report of

Mr. James Mitchell moved that Judge 'Santa, Professor Smart and R. W. Miers, members of the Board of Trustees, and Judge J. C. Robinson, lion. John R. Oravons, Hon. John W. Foster, Br. Allison Maxwell, and Major Vincent Carter, Alumni of the State University, to be constituted a committe to present the bills to the committee on Education of both Houses of the Legislature, and to urge on them and through them on the Legislature the importance of passing some measures looking to the permanent endowment of the University. Dr. Lemuel Moss, President of the University, was called upon and addressed the Association with warmth and eloquence, in which ho briefly reviewed the past history of the Institution and foreshadowed her future possibilities. He expressed his willingness to trust her cause in the hands of her Alumni, and indulged the hope that our Commonwealth would properly appreciate the cause of higher education. He showed that education adds to the wealth, strength and dignity of tho State; that it raised the price of every acre of land. Dr. Moss then introduced Professor D. S. Jordan, who briefly excused himself from an address at length. Oh motion of Mr. Foster a Committee was appointed to draft
and present to the Legislature a J
