What Son. W. B. Seward han to say Abcut it.
Hon. W. B. Seward, Slate Houpe Commissioner, spent last Sunday at his home iu this city,
and tho Couaisa had a talk with him in regard to the present
somewhat muddled anairs of the
new State House, which is locat
ed on Capital Square at Indian
apolis and bounded all around by offices and variety shows. We
asked the "gentleman if it was
true, as everybody thinks, that
the contractors, with the approv
al of the Commissioners, aro now
asking that the legislature re
imburse them for tho heavy loss
03 sustained in carrying on the
work thus far. Mr. Seward said
that there was not a particle of
truth in the report. "We don't
propose to ask the legislature for
a cent," said he, "the affairs of the State House are in a splendid condition." The gentleman then said that a Committee of the legislature had been appointed to investigate the whole matter In 1881 the Commissioners were advanced $200,000 out of the general fund for expenses ; while the two per cent tax was being collected. It was found that the money was not needed, no it was covered back into the treasury. The income from the two per cent tax amounts to 170;000 per annum, and as an unusual large expenditure is now about to be made in purchasing material for the roof the legislature will be asked that th;i2?000,000,which was covered back into the treasure, aeain be advanced. As for
roaenmeuts ol thoso
women The resolution was adopted by a unanimous veto. Bro. J. O. D. arose to a question privilege. He wanted to know if he could be re-instated upon proof of his innocence of the charge that he had been smiling at widows under the ago of 80. He was informed
that he could be, and gave the following explanation: The charge against me for smiling at widows is not true, and I will explain: While passing in front of Dunn & Co's I slipped it l J 11 j 'i
on in a ics ana iou striKing my patella against tho curb-stone, while at the same time I rolled up about one inch and a quarter
jsv tide on my tibia, and finally
Btdpped anu rwf on my lemur.
1 arose slowly to my loot, con-
siderabiy bruised, and saw two
females laughing at me, but no smile came from me, as I was in too much pain. But my teeth were clenched, and, doubtlessrmy face wove that peculiar woe begone I've-broke-my- other - suspender look so often soon when a fellow breaks his shins, and it was this look which was mistaken for a smile. Sir, it would be impossible for one to smile under sueh circumstances. I was hurt and mangled about my neither limbs, but, fortunately, my scap-
ui, humerus and sternum were uninjured. I hope I may be reinstated." On motion, ho was
rs-instaisa uy a rising vote uy u the members except Brother Garner, who slipped as he attempted to arise, but he voted "aye," or
"ughl" as he struck tho ice, and his vote was counted in the affirmative. Bro. George Walker said that Brother Henry Holtzman told him that Brother Millen had a talk with Brother McCollough,in which conversation Mc intimated to him that Brother George Atkinson charged Brother Charles Alexander with saying that
Brother Frank Dowden had accused Brother Gilmore of hugging and kissing a woman they call "Dummy," which stands in front of the Itee Hive Store, and he moved that a Committo be appointed to- investigate the matter. Brother Ward said that it was certainly improper for a member to be guilty of such conduct. Brother Garner was opposed to the motion. He thought a mem-

They were then ordered to kiss and separate until the call of the President. Brother Smith locked around tor a victim, but they were all engaged except Brother Stone.
