Mr, Showei s, of Showers Brothers furniture manufactures at Bloomington, waa in town Tuesday. He says that the firm began businons ten
years since with & very small capital, and has made a great deal of money.
They have recently erected a three-
story brick factory out of their prof
its, and are now 117,000 behind on
orders. Ancouned by this success
the citizens of Bloomington have raised $3,000, wbfb w now in bank, to start a aaiur ractory, which will ae running by Chi istmaa, ' Green castle is infinitely a better place than Bloomington for such an enterprise, because of our competing east and west railroads and proximity to coal. Pluck and etiterpruse are paying in Bloomington, wtieire they have but

the fact that tliere had been a very sftrioiiu row in nnd.about StockwelPs saloon, The adair was considerably mixed, and it has been ft hard matter for us, in the discharge of our duty as'i news gatherer, to get the straight of it. After hearing stater merits made by those who witnessed' the aifair, as well as those who were eug&ged in it, we have sifted the thing down about as follows: The trouble began in the satoun

City Marshal Buskirk attempted to quell the disturbance, and this brought on an. altercation bfcttreen him and Job 11 Stock weii, During the affray, City Marshal Buhkirfc was pushed out ol the house an d the door closed. He immediately drew his revolver, and a that moment some one caught his arm to keep hi in from firing. The revolve? was discharged, however, and the ball entered, the groin of an innocent bystander named William Bailey, Then followed an altercation between the Msrahal and policeman George Beeves, during which the latter fired two shots, it seems that Beeves triecto arrest the Marshal, fteoves states that the Marshal arm ell linn wilf with some stones and was ify

Oitdlu ile Clarity. Judge A. J. Simipson, of Paoli, Orange county, father of Mrs. J. F. Pitman, of this city, died ai his boHne, on Wednesday of last week. On Tuesday, Judge Simpson was arguing a case before jury, while the Hon. J. W. Buskirk, of this place, W3s on the bench. After speaking about-three-quarter of an hour, he suddenly sank into a chair, and was irnmendiately surrounded by his friends, who knew that the effort had been too much for him; He,, was taken from the Courtroom, but returned in a few moments and again began his argument, taking un the
thread where he had left it, as if nothing had happened. His son, who is Clerk of the Court, persuaded him to drop his argument and retire 10 his home, which lie did. In twenty -lour hours afterward he c?ied. Judge Simpson was about 85 years of age, and was a half brother to the late Chief Justice Clifford, of the U. S, Supreme Court. He had been a resident of Paoh fifty years, and was highly esteemed by all. Candy pullin' time.

A bastardy case, from Indian Creek township, that was to haye been tried before -Squire Tate,, in this. cit. last Monday, did not come off; consequently the bald heads were greatly disappointed. Mrs. Eleanor Spencer, the mother oftP, O, Spencer, died on Sunday night last, in the 80th year of her age. " She had been a resident of this county 40 years, and a devout member of the Methodist Church for 62 years.
