It stands second to no line running west, and offers inducements and advantages that can not be offered by any of its competitors. The Ohio Republicans confess their inability to meet their opponents on a fair field by appealing to their friends in the East to raise funds for the re-election of ' Foster. It certainly seems that with the patronage of the Federal Government and Foster's private fortune, to say nothing of the interested national banks and railway corporations they have to levy upon, they could get on without begging Eastern aid. But the people are against them.
That is what is the matter, and it would not be surprising if Foster is
defeated in the heretofore strong Re

Every day or- two some toady in some city informs the public that some official or business man has gone to the sea shore- or to the lakes for needed rest. It is given out that he isr absolutely worked down, and by arduous labor has .been enfeebled in jbody and tired out in mind. These society reports arc innocent enough, but they are almost entirely destitute of the truth. The fact is, the men, as a general thing, who go to the resorts are the men who do not bear
the burden and heat of life at home. Let them go. It is agreeable for them to go. But stop telling lies about their being worked down, whenever they go out for a cruise of
pleasure.
It will be a matter of interest to the stock breeders of our own and neighboring States to find in our col umns an official announcement of the First Semi-An uual Fair ol the Lou is-
ville Fair Association. With a time selected to avoid an3r conflict with the interest of our neighbors, and with an organization strong and well ordered, and comprising man'' of our most successful and influential men, no doubt is felt that the Louisville Fair will promote, in every praticable way, our stock interests, and, while doing this for pur country, will be at the same time for Louisville, one of the most important enterprises ever put before our people. Other great fairs have contributed, largely to the wealth of cities, and ours will do no less. Many thousand strangers will be brought here to witness our exhibition of stock, which it is in tended shall excel any ever seen be
fore. The amount of stock anv one
person is allowed to hold is limited to the sum of three hundred dollars, this being the qualification of membership, and the fair is entirely a people's enterprise, conducted solely in the public interest Maj. Henrv C. McDowell, in a letter before us expresses the opinion of many of our stock men when he says: "I be
lieve that the methods proposed by Louisville Fair association well make that the great stock fair of the world.' sCourier-Journal.
