Josie Sutherland, a Chicago girl, now rides the elephant at a salary ot $17,00 a month and findings. After quarreling half the season Forepaugh has discharged his $10,000 beauty and the plucky female has sued him for the $10,000. He will undobtediy have to stand up to his agreement and toe the mark. A wealthy Penusylvanian writes to Governor Fo3tor, of Ohio, that as a near friend of the President and his family, he desires to give Mrs. Garfield $100,000 in case the President dies, and asks the Governor for advice as how to make the gift.

Though the verdict of the courtmartial is known to be that Whittaker split his own ears and should be

is likely to remain just where it is filed away in a pigeon-hole as the

, The disposition of the female of to day to step into new business channel is inclined to over-exert itself. One day last week a young lady of Dayton, O., was arrested for forgery, and yesterday another in Wood county was arrested and taken to Findley, O., on a similar charge. Better leave; these things to the lords of creation.
The South Bend Register man has discovered that it was just three months and twenty-nine days from the time Garfield was inaugurated
until he was shot, and thinks that maby there was something prophetic about -82iP after all. Gitteau has been photographed at the Jail. He wanted it done in firstclas style, ani was anxions that the correct expression of his eyes should be obtained. He arranged his hair, necktie, &c, very exactly, and was particularabout his position. Eight different styles ot pictures were taken in as many positions. Why don't some of the rich men who no doubt are actuated by pure motives and are so anxious to do something for a President's wife, start a subscription for" a fund for the relief of the widow of President Lincoln? A fund of a few thousand dollars raised for her benefit would be an appropriate and well bestowed favor.

The wheat and rye crop of Kansas being nearly all now in the shock and stack, an approximate estimate may be made of the yield. . The best information we can gather, leads us to believe that the yield of wheat will aggregate over 20,000,000 bushels, and that the grade is excellent. In many portions of the State there are fields that will produce twentyfive and in a. few instances thirty and thirty-five buehels to the acre. Some fields will go as low as ten, and the average yield of the whole acreage harvested will probably be at least twelve bushels. This of coarse is not more than half a crop, but Kansas farmers have not had that for several years, and are pretty well satisfied. Indeed there is not in the whole land a more cheerful set of farmers than are now to be found in Kansas. The hard winter caused lonsiderablo suffering in many localities, but as a general rule they worried through very well, and

The school fund of Texas will at no distant day" be enormous. ' The condition of President Gaifield at this moment is a strikiug example of how even eminent physicians
Of surgeons may sometimes go astray when they undertake to make pre
dictions of the results of sickness or
bodily injury. Although thought
by all his attendants on the day of
his attempted assassination to be sinking, and even reported to the shocked community as dead, he is slowly and surely recovering, and able at the present moment to ap
preciate the nice points of a broiled
beefsteak or a juicy mutton chop. His wound is doing nicely, and ere long, will safely heal ; his liver, con
cerning the perforation of which so
much has been said, seems to be performing its functions properly as if nothing had happened, and that in
ternal hemorrhage and terrible clot of blood a surgeon so eminent even
as Dr. Beckwith was at pains explain t the length of a column to a
reporter, on the 4th or 5th of diy, as
existing un$er the liver and about to cause inevitably iatal pyaemia, has never materialized. On the whole the President haa miraculously escapedas it now would seem the death that usually rurks in the bullet of the assassin and sometimes in the probe and scalpel of the life saving surgeon.
