EMIGRANTS FOR
TEXAS
Few persons have a correct appreciation of the Bize and resources of the Slate of Texas. .There has been talk of dividing it into six States. In this case each State would be equal in area to the State of Penh syivaniu- it is more than double the size of Great Britain and Ireland and much larger than France or the German Empire, the German Emwith its 40,000,000 population, could be-tumbled into Texas and there won Id be room enough left to place" the area of all the New England States.
sex." That's all stuff, there's no such custom. If women refuse to counsel or aid their fallen sisters it is'nt the fault of "custom." Sensible men and women do not consider any person degraded by act of kindness whatever; and the fear ot remark in such cases comes from impure lives. Innocence is always fearless but'consieuoo makes cowards of us all." The remedy for all this, begins in the secret recesses of the human heart, and the strict performance of known duty. If each and every woman would
lay aside all malice, envy, spite and
prejudice, and resolve to thoroughly perform her wh ole d u ty to the best of her abilit", aud then keep her resolutions, all thesevexul questions would disappear. And unless this is done, no amount of speech fying, or berating the wrongs of either sex will charge the current of social life, or right the wrongs under which they labor.
If the upshot of the ConklingGar
field fight should be the election of
two Democratic Senators from New York, it would be a clear case of hon
est men profiting by rogues out.
