IPOETaeAI R:VrTIJE. TbenAVtorapli Album Mania, in Our Public Schools. The little ones of the lower rooms of the Bloomington PoJblic Schools have lately had! a violent attack of what might le called the autograph album fever. The small albums may be pu rehased at th e stores lor from fave.to twenty-five cents, and they are passed around among the little friends to receive a written sentiment from each with the autograph of the writer. A number of these albums recently fell into the hands of a member of the Gouiier family, who was at once struck with the originality andquaintnessof some of the verses. We copy a tew of them, thinking that they will interest some of the elder friends of the little Bloomingtonites:' . "Your album is a garden spot In which I planfea Forget-me-not Remember me in all your wishes. And think of me when washing dishes. Always be kind and true, And there'll always be love for you. May earth be joyous, death sweet, and Heaven your home, You ask me to write in your album, I hardly know how to begin. For there's nothing original about me, Except original sin.Remember well and bear in mind, A trusty friend is hard to find.

To write a few lines in your album,

y niy friend, I shall engross a few moments My thoughts and my pen.Remember me and don't forget, You have a friend in Bloomington yet. Be a good little girl and go to school, Learn j-our lessons well, and obey I your teacher's rule. Politeness is to do and say, Thekindest things in the kindest way. Allow me this little spot To write the words "foget me not." When you are old and cannot see, Put on you specs and think of me. Away back here, out of sight, I write my name just for spite. In memory's wood-box, place a stick for me. Remember me for gracious sake, And save me a piece of your wedding -r cake: My pen i bad, my ink is pale, My hand shakes like a little dog's tail. Forget me never Till yonder sun shall set forever. Remember; O remember when we used to go to school, Remember, Q rem ember wh en we ' used to act the fool, My pen is bad, my ink is worse, God the bless the one that reads '- this verse. My pen is bad, my ink is pale, My love for you would split a rail. Long may yon- live and happy be, Beloved by all; bat mos t by me. Cold the wind blows and makes you sneeze. :" ... But my love for you wi!l never freeze. May your days be days of peace, And slide along, as slick as grease. Some write for pleasure, some for ,. ,. fame, f . . . CLKUICAL CHATTER.

tn on t i bo Salesmen of t)lie Bloom . jnglou stores!.

The clerks in the various stores of Bloomington and we have some of the finest in the State were recently threatened with a "write-up" by the Courier. When the Courier promises anything it is bound to come, and below is the result of a ramble among the stores of our patrons, with a brief mention of the persons they employ to attend to the wants of the dear people who come to purchase their wares: Our ubiquitous henchman "followed the crowd" to the old established Dunn corner, near the depot. Here we found Joseph Alexander, Charles Alexander and Tobe Batter Ion, three of the pleasan test men in town, and whose courteous manners go far in contributing toward the great popularity this house now enjoyw. At the "Boss" Clothing Store corner the good looking aiid genial Charley Tonrner was found, who, in addition to the proprietors, "Mose" and 4iSol," makes many fast friends by polite treatment and fair-dealing with all patrons of this thriving establishment. Next door the good-natured, thorough druggist, Doc, Far is holds forth as Oapt. Shoemaker's next best man. Another assistant; in this store is Mr, Faris son "Bud," who is destined to be a "chip of the old block," that is if the pretty girls do not eat him up before 3e arrives at the age of maturity. In the store of the veteran merchant, McCalla, Ellis Slusyjr,, is chief of the Knights of the yardstick. Ellis' good looks, pleasant waysj(and blonde mustache) captivates the young ladies, especially, with whom this store is so popular. In the City Bookstore will be found as assistants to Mr. Cole, the proprietor, his estimable wife, and Waldo Vanzant an energetic and pleasant

young gentleman who is destined to

make his mark in the business world. In Purdue's, Ed Whitsell will be found as obliging a clerk as t here is in town, and well, he's married. "All alone by himself" is Oscar Reed in the neat little Parlor Drug Store, where he makes it pleasant for all who call, whether they want three cents worth of salts or a five-dollar

At Fee's, John K, Whisenand will istill be found at his old 'post of dut3T, swhile Lon Rogers is the latest addition to the clerical force. It is as

tonishing how the young people of

the feminine gender are patronizing Fee's since Lon has been installed behind the counter. There were so many busy bees in the Bee Hive dodging around among the piles of goods' that we are not sure we caught them all. We are ready to go before a Justice of the Peace and solemnly swear that the handsomest jot.of clerks in Bloomington are hived next door to the Postoffice. There's Charley Mitchell. Ed Hall, Diek Houston, Dr. Bragg, J. O. Mulky, Nat Browning and Qharle3' Hall, all of whom, the ladies say, are just "too sweet for anything," and who are thoroughly versed in the art of good manners and efficient attention to the swarms of patrons of the Bee Hive. In Stuart & McPbecters' Will Adkins is chief clerk a young gentleman who has the material iu him for a thorough business man. AtJfhe New York Store we skip

:the proprietors, Len Field and Soddy

Carmichael who do not properly belong in the ranks of those we are writing up, to mention the three princip

al clerks, William Clark, W. W. Har-

rold and J! W. Jackson. These gentlemen fill ail the requirements of first-chss clerks, and this old establishment and popular house will en

joy no other kind, Will Carjt has

.recovered from his bash fulness, and

can now wait on a young lady with as much composure as he could our grandmothers. The ever good-natured Tobe Smith has for his chief assistant his son Joe, whom the patrons (especially the young ladies) Had to be eminently fitted for the position he occupies. In Orchard's grocery everybody knows where that; is is Ben Rogers, thevbest young fellow in the world, and one whose services are invalua-

business knowledge is adding to the already large army of friends of this hou3e. The old reliable house of J. M. Howe t& Son have ample assistance in attending to the wants of their large circle of patrons. Mrs. Beers presides over the millinery department, and her r put atum as an expeit

in that line has long since been established. In the mammoth grocery room of Collins & Karseli we find as assistants to the proprietors those princes of good fellows Parker Pearson and Mr. Giles. These gentlemen understand their business thoroughly, and are alive to the wants of their customers as well as to the interests of their employers. Chris and Ike Walker have James Campbell to help them make "dead cow," and to catch stray curs ior the sausage machine. These gentlemen all understand their business, and that is a big point in the butcher trade. At Benckart s bakery and confectionery there are as assistants, the wife of the proprietor, and a brother and a sister Miss Theresa Benckart and John Benokart, They are all very courteous, and it is pleasant to deal there. The baking is done by George and John, than whom Bloomington never had better bakers. At Bollenbacher's old established shoe house the proprietor does not go out of his own family to find plenty of efficient help, and customers are always assured of the best treatment. A grand jury in Wabash county recentl3T found thirty-one indictments against the saloon keepers of Wabash. In a county where the "God and morality" party is so dominant, it hardly seemed possible that so much wickedness should abound, but Republicans like their soddy as well as any other class of persons.-. Wabash county is so intensely Republican and the Republicans all claim to be such friends of the temp erance cause that it was but natural to suppose that .Mr. Fall, the gentleman the Republicans of that county sent to Indianapolis by 1,400 majority to represent tnera in the Legislature, would haivc voted for the local option bill, but he did'nt. He voted against it as hard as he could. He was afraid that the passage of the bill would "injure the prospects of the party," Another clear case oi Republican hybocrisy. Delp In Times.

Bariium has arranged to have a gorilla born in OUo this summer. He will have it grow up with the country, and become a Republican stat esman, of course. BEDS OF DOWN FEEL HARD.
