Aunt EUza Pacce, Dear Editor: The article I wrote for you last week, has evidently raised a storm, not with the .readers of your paper, but in my own family. As we sat down the other evening to supper, Zachariah (my old man), looking cross as a sore headed bear, growled out, "Well, Liz (he always says Liz when he is mad), its a 'pretty time of day for you to begin writing pieces for the papers, just becaus some one wrote something that dUVnt suit your idea." . Yes" interrupted mother scowling over her specs, 'Elizabeth you want to be a tubman's Rights woman and look smart; now don't you? Its really awful." Then brother Jeemsspoke up kinder pert-like, "Why, Lize you'll have the whole town talking about you next, making yourself so conspicuous." While sister Prudence sneered out, "I think, Betty, you are aliitletoo fresh, you'll tea Jane

Swisshelm. or an Elizabeth Cady

Stanton soon enough." These last remarks riled me and made my false teeth fairly rattle in my head, what with the scolding and the blizzards; with the green wood a stewing and tb bread not raising, it is enough to give me the hysterics. But revenge is sweet and I c-ivt write for laughing at thewayjthe whole family jot scooped in on the Dunn's quarry joke. - Zac readmit and that settled it, they must all go to Falkners and see that trunk, even mother waddled up there and Falkner dUVnt leton, but with a face kind of sad-lifee, trotted them from cellar to garret, from one room to another, then to the woodshed and told them to come around next All Fools7 Day, and he would buy them a trunk for fools to look at. Back they came, looking sheepish, while Zac cavorted about like a blind mule in a hornets nest, and allowed that Feltus was too darned umartto live. But Zac got madder than that when after dinner next day Prudence was making such a fuss about losing her fitcencent bangs that she bad just bought at Mrs. Gregory's store, when Willie (he is my youngest and so cute ) spoke up with "Say, Aunt Pude, I pntdem fizzes in do toffee pot desfo: fun," . and on; fishing for them with the carving fork, up they came limp a& a dishrag. Zac, well he just bolted for J the door aud left

his breakfast oufeside. He don't like

coffee any more. But I didrn-t find any difference in the taste. I do

;wish spring weather would come

soon.; I have a new dress of mummy cloth, cut and made In the latest style; that I know will astonish some people. I don't see what the storekeepers are goimr to do with all the new goods piled on their shelves.

Sell tiiem Iff uess. Why, the New

York store, Bee Hive, McCalla & Co, Atkinson and Mobley 's are just as full as a bloated bondholder. 1 bought Zac a dozen of those owl shim that Kali n & Tannenbaum keeps, and peace once more reigns supreme at home, while Eliza this, and Eliza that, is ever ringing like music in my ears. I see cl early see in all thispetting, a spanking new spring bonnet in t he near future. How sweet it is for husband and wi fe to d wel 1 i n barm on i on s u nity .

Well, with the ironing to do and sup-

Fi ora Arkansas. Editou Coukier: I see through the Courier that John F. Walker is suffering from a cancer. I am satisfied that the waters o( Euieka springs have ci. red cancers. These springs are situated in Carroll county, Ark., and the route from your lowu would be through St Louis and Springfield Mo, These springs have only been known as a health resort for two years, and there are, perhaps, more people there now than at the celebrated springs at Hot Springs near here. It is said that the effect of this water is id most certain to remove a cancer if no surgical operation has been previously performed. That the Eurtka water has made wonderful cures of blindness, chronic sore eyes, and all kinds of chronic sores, there can be no doubt. Your people may know a3 much about the matter as 1 do, as you are nearer in point of travling 'ime than I am. But as I have never seen any mention of the spring in yonr paper, I presume their reputation is only local as yet. Camden Ark., C. H. Stoke, March 29, '81. : , aa w VanBnrcn 'lowiisiiip. Farmers generally are behind with their spring work, but few oats have been sown up to the present time. A few have broken sod for corn. Feed will not be so 'plentiful as last spring. I understand that a 3dr Rice is going to open a store at Harmony. An effort will be made to re establish the Postofilce at Rose Creek, as it was a great convenience to this community. We are sorry that Soddy Carmichael has left the township, as he was one of our best citizens; also Ben Kirhy, who moves to Richland. W. B. Baker, commission or-elect, is on the sick list, but is improving

slowly. Last week the wife of Caspar" Baker died. She was one. of the early settlers, and was much respected. Thomas Mercer, our enterprising saw mill man, is cutting out a nice lot of lumber to be hauled when the roads get passable; he has a No. J milland is a practical mill man. Nat Bernard is running his grist nill on full time, and is doing first class work. Wheat in this locality looks anything else but promising. 1 have not examined the peach buds, ibut take for granted they are all killed, or will be. Sneak thieves haye been get. ting in their work lately. Daniel Paflbrd's smoke-house was the last place they raided, taking near a whole hog of nicely smoked meat. Vanbukkn. '. ifr" Hi am . The Danville;; Democrat and the book and job printing 'establishment of J E, Sherrill, which publishes ''The Normal Tea tier," a noted school journal, have been consolidated, ,and the two publications will hereafter be issued from uThe Democrat Publishing House.", Mr. M, A. In spite of the growling and grumbling of a few old fogy fugleman, the gravle road from Taggart's crossing to the Monroe county line, is now a fixed fact, the County Commissioners having acted favorably to the petition to construct the same. Notwithstanding the many works oublished concerning the volcanoes, especially of Italy, the cause of their activity, and of the phenomena goner ally is mere conjecture. It is highly probable I hat they are intimately connected with the water of the sea, near which all of the principal volcanoes are situated.
