This time- a "gentleman 'irom Marion" proposes to let the official printing to the lowest bidder, lithe bill should become a law anyone could get a handful of type, give the paper away to get up a circulation, and bid low enough to defeat the legitimate printer who endeavors Jo conduct his affairs oa business principles and tries to give the peo.pie a paper of which they will not be &&Kined. We are confident that there are enough sensible men in the legislature to defeat the project

The hue and cry raised because!

Indiana is unrepresented in the Cabinet is the worst of tomfoolery. Indiana gave her vote for the republic an party because the party opened the floodgates of every species of frand and poured its villainous stream into the state la selecting Windom, Gar fie.' d has rewarded the man who did more than any other to carry Indiana for him. Living With WU NecK Broken. Pittsburg Talograph. An accident occurred on Monday at barney, Clarion county, which proved to be one oi the most extraordinary cases ever recorded-in history of surgery or medical jurisprudence. James Gaupeil, a French 'Canadian employed at I$araeT,s mill foil from a trestle about twelve fee to the ground. Alter recovering from the shock of the fail, he was unable to move -his head, and Dr. Edwards, at

tending physician, discovered that

the neck was dislocated and some of

the bones broken ; but it was evident that the spinal column had not been severed. The doctor reset and put the fractured neck in position, and set about devising means to keep it in place, until the broken bones and cofuscd ligaments attain their normal position. To this end a muslin bandage three inches wide was wrapped tightly around his neck, and to it were attached two lugs, one on either side. To these a rope was fastened and" run over a pulley fixed to the ceiling of the room. A bucket was suspended on the other end of the rope and in it were placed various weights so that the patient can adjust the contrivance as occasion

may require by simply reaching to the bucket and removing or adding one or two weights. He remains in a sitting posture, and should any slight change of position occur the tension of the rope will still support the weight of the head. With these appliances for his support, the unlortinate man will have to remain practically in the same position until the injured parts become united or death ends the case

Our Representative in Congress returned home from Washington on -Monday evening, the time for which be was elected having expired on the 4th ot March. It will be remembered that Mr. Hostetler was elected two 3 ears ago last fall from the old 8th District defeating Hon. Morton C. His r course in congress has been such as not only to command the respect of his peers on the floor of the House, but has received the appro al of his j constituency at home. No man-ever came nearer laying aside party preds j udice and devoting himself wholly to 3 h is constituency, Lrrespccti ve of part3 I On entering congress he was made I chairman of the committee on civil 1 service reform, one of the most important positions i n the h ou se. He was also a member of tire committee on jHinsions, and as such labored incessantly for the benefit of" the wounded and maimed Boidier, and for the widows and orphans of the lamented

dead who cave up their lives on the

many bloody battle fields in the late rebellion. There are many who can attest the fact in this district that Mr

throughout the year to come every

1. All the world's news, so pre

greatest amount of information with the least unprofitable expenditure of time and eyesight. The Sun longago discovered the golden mean between redundant fullness and unsatisfactory brevity. II. Much of that sort of news which depends less upon its recognized importance than upon its interest to mankind, From morning to morning The Sun prints a continued story of the lives of real men and women, and of their deeds, pi; us, loves, hates, and troubles. This story is more varied and more interesting than any romance that was ever devised, III. Good writing in ever column and freshness, originality, accuracy, and decorum in the treatment of every subject. IV. Honest comment. The Sun's habit is to speak out fearlessly about men and things.

. V- Equal candor in dealing with each political party," and equal readiness to commend what is praiseworth or to rebuke what is blamable in Democrat or Republican. VI, Absolute independence of partisan organizations, but un waver ing loyalty to true Democratic principles. The Sun believes that the Government which the Constitution gives us is a good one to keep. Its notions of duty is to resist to its utmost power the efforts of men in the Republican part' to set up another form of government in place of that which exists. The year 1881 and the years immediately following will probably decide this supremely important contest. The Sun believes
