Totals were 18 field goals, 20 free throws, 9 personals. Little Webster Gives Gives Big Ligonier Giant Scare Friday The North Webster Trojans, perennially one of the smallest teams in the county, sent periodic chills up the long backs of the much taller Ligonier team before 6-foot, 4-inch Jerry Oberg broke a 59-59 deadlock in the last two seconds with a layup for Ligonier, the final score reading 61-59. The Trojans hustled to a stirprising 11-1 lead before the visitors realised the game wouldn’t be a pushover, after all. They fought back to lead 20-14 at the end of the first period, but the determined Trojans, training most of the way by only a few points, kept fighting back, finally knotting the •core at 59 all before Oberg provided Ligonier with the winning two-pointer. Jerry Gullet was the high scorer of the evening with 18 points, while teammates Cary, Weaver, and Rhodes added 10, 11, and 12 respectively. Oberg had 15 points, Griffith 13 and Elijah 12 for Ligonier. The box score follows: NORTH WEBSTER (59) — Gullett 740, Carey 501, Rhodes 523, Wright 101, Davis 303, and Weaver 353. Totals: 24-11-11. LIGONIER (81)—Nord 201, Elijah 602, Berkey 222, Gunder 200, Oberg 714, Griffith 612, West 001, and Hicks 310. Totals 28-5-12. North Webster won the ”B” tilt, edging the visitors 48-46 in a nip-and-tuck contest Coach Donnie Butts’ Red and White hosts the Cubs of Etna Green Friday and will be seeking to take the silver horseshoe from the visitors. PIERCETON BOWS TO WARSAW 73455 The Pierceton Cubs, despite Bob 27 point performance,

were unable to stop the unpredictable Warsaw Tigers Friday at Warsaw’. Coach Tom Sittier's crew’ was definitely in the contest until the third quarter when Boag Johnson's Bengals poured 27 points through the net while limiting the visitors to. 13 for a 57-39 advantage after three periods. Dave Johnson was high scorer ' for the Tigers with 20 points, but received considerable help from teammates Dick Lcsh, Don PhilUpRL and Vai Metzger, who added 16.10 and 9 points respectively. The box score follows: 4, Rosbrugh 001, Kerr 073, Carlin 02$ O’Dell 425, Slusher 234, Con'Wvlo4, and Cone 101. Totals 15-25-24. WARSAW (73)—Lesh 645, Gatke 003. Cook 304. Call 312, Johnson 843, Harman 021, Metzger 334, McClure 030, Phillips 500, and Bayne 005. Warsaw’s fine ”B” team copped the preliminary victory, building up a 27-8 half-time advantage before coasting to the win. MILFORD LOSES TO BRISTOL 90-61 Milford’s loss to Bristol List Friday was costly as high scorer John Gerber suffered two torn ligaments in the right leg sidelining him for at least three weeks from basketball activity—maybe more. Gerber fell hard to the floor, twisting his ankle in the early moments of the third period. • Coach Van Meter's Blue and White began the game handicapped as standout center Bill Troup did not dress for the fray after suffering from the flu. All in all, without Troup and Gerber to depend on, the 90*61 score failed to tell the w hole story, a story that also had its brighter side. The first quarter was extremely hectic as Bristol racked up a 120 lead while the young Trojans • were getting accustomed to their re-shuffled line-up. With Troup sidelined. Coach Van Meter started Groves At center, Gerber at forward, and Dewart at guard—all for the first time. The Pirates continued to pull away from their early 12-0 Advantage until the Trojans began to click with the scoreboard reading 29-8. By Intermission the score was Bristol 51, Milford 23. The Trojan replacements, fearing a one-sided Bristol slaughter, played desperate and determined ball throughout the second half, with Marion Groves, Mike Zimmerman and Ron Baumgartner playing better than they have played all season. Although playing a much taller and more experienced club they w’ere only outscored b y one point, 39-38 during the final 16 minutes of play. Zimmerman, who did a fine Job as Gerber’s replacement, scored eight points; Groves wrestled for rebounds well and offensively .canned 13 points, his best showing; Baumgartner led Milford scorers with 14 points and blocked numerous Pirate shots during the second half; and Tom Holderread played his usual good brand of ball. Also Jon Dewart looked better than ever, although he only played one period and Max Duncan hit for nine points, his season's high. The Pirates' balanced attack was led by Nielson, Culveyhouse, and Everett with 23, 21, and 17 points respectively. While Milford will be handicapped with the loss of Gerber during the next few weeks, his sidelining will give Zimmerman an opportunity to develop into the third dependable guard the Trojans will need come tourney time. The box score follows: MILFORD (61) — Duncan 412, Groves 614, Dewart 103 Baumgartner 704, Gerber 203. Zimmerman 162, and Holderread 353. Totals: 24-13-21. BRISTOL (90) — Everett 814, Van Skyhock 331, Ziegler Oil, Culveyhouse 933, Wuall 102, Monsey 202, Meiser 311, Nielson 10-3-4,, and Erickson 221. Totals: 38-14-19. While the handicapped varsity played outstanding ball, the Trojan "B” squad played poorly, going down* to defeat 30-26, their third conseuctive loss. Tomorrow Milford travels to New Paris, powerful conquerors of Syracuse 62-32 and Etna Green 60-52. Mr*.
