. gl Y © THI UPPfR ROOM MASHVIIIE TtNNfSSft _ THURSDAY, AUGUST 17 Read Proverbs 12:17-—23; John 3:1—11 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. tExodus 20:16) Traveling through the mountains from a farm where we had had some days of vacation, we gave an elderly lady a ride. She was going to a religious meeting. During the tew minutes she was in the car, we soon .learned that she was very inquisitive and was willing to use her tongue. She wanted to know’ from where we had come, 1 mentioned the name opU+e farmer. Oh", she said, "he is quite a man — impossibly to say MiytJjing evil about him " Then she talked about other people lam sure they all were sinners, though some were Christians and some non-Christians. She did bear witness — even false witness against many of them. It is possible, to bear false witness even against non-Christians. 1 am quite convinced that it is sin to speak when we bear false testnnquy and do not keep to the truth. Let us be careful when we talk — keep to truth and be governed by love. PRAYER: Dear Father, help us to be more careful when we talk and bring our w itness. Let us never hurt people by telling things which are not true. May all we say ami do in life express that love which was revealed in Jesus, the truth and the love by which we live. In His blessed name we pray. Ainein THOUGHT FOR THE DAY The tongue can be used for good or for evil. Let me use it only for good. * Odd Hagen (Sweden)
