DWARF WILD ROSE This nice wildling (Rosea Virginia) is well suited to garden use. I have been told that it is found native only in the south central * mountains, but other authorities claim that it is found .wild over much of the U. S. east of the Rockies. Very hardy. Begins blooming when scarcely six inches tall. Usually a foot and a half is its limit but years ago 1 found an old clump, way back in the hills, and am sure that at least one of the canes measured nearer two feet from ground to tip. but that is the tallest I have ever seen. The is typical rose foliage; blooms are a rich pink, same color, size and form as those of the Arkansas Rose. The blooms atg followed by bright red pips vlieh on until winter. The pips are about the size of a garden Pea. or a little bigger. And like the Arkansas Rose .the petals and seed pips are edible. The petal can be candied and served as .candy: or can be used to dec

"Joiner" Contract Approved By Board The town of Syracuse and Turkey Creek Township have entered into a "Joiner” contract for the purpose of aiding the Syracuse Plan Commission and other projects that may be of mutual interest. At a called public meeting on Aug 8. the Township Trustee. George Lamm, and members of the Syracuse Plan Commission met and discussed the joint contract. . and with no objections from any one present, the trustee and his advisory board approved the move. The contract WM apprised Tuesday night. Aug. 15, by the Syracuse Town Board. This “joiner” will enable the township trustee to aid in paying for the cost of the Syracuse Plan Commission, and Trustee Lamm has set up the sum of SSOO in his 1962 budget for this purpose. ' To review the Plan Commission
history. the Wawasee Lake Property Owners Association paid a professional planning corporation some $5,000 for the original ordinance and plans. For one year the town of Syracuse paid tjje Plan Commission attorhey the sum of S4OO for his services. The past two years the Plan Commission Attorney has not been paid, although he has done more than SI,OOO worth of work, according to a member of the Plan Commission. The Building Commissioner is paid by funds paid in by thoae who ask building permits or from a sub-division which is granted approval. No public funds ape paid the building commissioner, and since some of the permits granted are from outside the town limits, the money he is paid comes from those sources. The money paid out by the town this year for this Plan Commission from, tax sources is less than SSO —for rental of a building for public meetings, for some stationery and postage.
MACHINERY FIELD Thirty acres of labor saving, brightly colored farm equipment is scheduled for the Machinery Field at the 1961 Indiana State Fair. Lined up for Fairgoers’ inspection will be all sorts of new equipment which will appeal both to bona fide farmers and green thumbed suburbanites. From a stand-by generator which enables farmers to carry on when electricity fails, to a multi-purpose “geostace” dome shelter., to a nifty new hay rake from Holland, Far goers can see ideas easily adaptable to their particular situations. The “latest” in tractor models, plowing equipment, grain drying .equipment, grain augers, spraying equipment, electric hoists, silos, grain bins, wagons, arc welding equipment, chain saws, and steel frame buildings will be among the many exhibits. Major companies to be represented are International Harvester. New Idea. New Holland. Indiana Farm Bureau Co-op. Kewanee Machinery, as well as local dealers of Allis Chalmers and John Deere. ' Since good machinery is an operating essential today in most every occupation.
