Six-Day Police & Firemen's Fair For Syracuse The six-day Police and Fire* men’s Fair scheduled in Syracuse for July 3 to 8 will feature ama’teur entertainment along with a Firemen's Queen to be chosen, a big parade with high school bands. American Legion Color Guard Units, Decorated Floats, a revue by the Baton School girls. Fireworks on July 4th. All proceeds from the week-long event "will go toward the support of various youth movements sponsored by the Syracuse Police and Equip* * ment for the Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department. The affair Degins on Monday July 3rd with Family Day and Night, 2 P.M. until closing with all rides 8 for SI.OO At 7 PM. a greased pig event, egg tossing content and a greased pole climb ing event with a $lO 00 -cash prize for each event.

On July 4th the Annual Fireworks will be set off at the Syracuse City. Park under the directions of the Chamber of Commerce. On the evening of July sth a big revue from the Smith-Wal-bridge Baton camp will put on the entertainment. Various acts of Baton twirling, marching, singing, and dancing will be featured by fifty girls. July 6th is the Variety Talent Show beginning at 7 P.M. with cash prizes to the 3 top winners. All amateur acts are invited to enter. Contact Joe Hughes, Syracuse Indiana to enter. A big parade will start things off July 7th at 7 P M. A Firemen s Queen will be selected. Patsy Hummel has been selected to represent Syracuse. Ligonier, Goshen, New Paris, Warsaw. Milford, and others are expected to send Fire Trucks and Queens for the parade. Seven More Beauties In 4 Queen Os Lakes Contest Seven more young ladies have entered the "Queen of Lakes" contest to be held in North Webster as a climax to the 16th annual Mermaid Festival, bringing the total contestants to date to 29 Concord high school has selected Nancy Ann Mitchell. Nancy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.Clarence Mitchell and was chosen by the school student body and faculty. Nancy Stouder of Andrews, Indiana, and a junior at Indiana University will vie for "Queen of Lakes ’ Saturday. July 1. She will be sponsored by Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. Deitz Zeta sorority of Ball State college will be represented by Connie Tappmeyer of Fort Wayne. Elaine Marker will wear the "Mess Selma" ribbon in the "Queen of Lakes" contest, she is the 1961 Selma Lions Club Queen and reigned over the Delaware County Fair as "Miss Delaware County." Two Kosciusko county girls have also entered the competition. Karen Freed of Silver Lake will represent the Silver Lake Parent Teachers Association and Judith Watson will represent the host city. Superintendent of Game, for the Division of Fish and Game of the Indiana Department of Conservation, has completed the spring release of adult quail. Fifty-one pairs of Bobwhite quail were released in each of the 92 counties, making a total of 9.384 breeder birds released. Conservation Officers and Club Members in the various counties ossisted in the distribution of the quail. hundred adult birds were released on PittmanRobertson Habitat Areas. On these areas wildlife biologiists of the Division of Fish and Game assist the owners of the land in improving the wildlife habitat. Seeds for growing plants for wildlife food are supplied to the landowners. These w ildlife biologists are under the supervision of James A. Hughes, leader of the Wildlife Habitat Restoration Project. . .1200 To Public Areas In addition. 1200 quail were released on public shooting areas, and 410 were released for spring field trials, making a total of 14.794 adult quail released. Birds released for field trials remain after the trials as brood stock. Following the completion of the spring distribution of adult quail, the incubators at the Muscatatuck State Game Farm have begun to turn out baby quail chicks for distribution to youth organizations and adult clubs, throughout the state. These quail are delivered to the various counties when just one-day old. Jack Stabler is Superintendent of the Muscatatuck State Game Farm. He will see to it that some 51,545 day-old chicks will be delivered to the boys and girls who will rear these birds and later release them in their local communities when they-are 8 weeks old. The adult clubs will receive 156,430 of the baby quail to be reared and released by their members. ing routine. | Tom Oswalt, son of Mrs. Orval Klink, is home for the summer and is working at Klink’s market. Tom attends Onarga Military School in Onarga, Illinois. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Lindemuth and daughters, Bernice and Maxine, were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lindemuth’s parents. Mr. and Mi’s. Harley Lindemuth. Mrs. Georgia Miller was hostess last Veek to the Wednesday Bridge club. Mrs. Florence Allen of North Webster was guest. Mr. and Mi’s. Lewis Immel and daughter, Mary Barb, returned Saturday from a ten day trip east which included Washington, D.C. and the Shenendoah Valley. Mrs. Douglas Pilcher and children, Janice, Linda, Robert and Patti Jo, returned Friday from a ten day trip west. They visited Mrs. Pilcher’s mother, Mrs. Rose Parkhurst at Rocky Ford, Colorado, and other, relatives there and in Colorado Springs and Blanca. On the second day of their trip they ran into a hail storm in which the hail was too large to enclose in the hand. Many cars were damaged by the large balls of ice. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Karr and family moved Monday to Lyndhurst, Ohio. Mr. Karr who is associated with the Weatherhead company has been transferred to the. Cleveland plant. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ditmer speht the week end in Louisville, and attended the high school graduation exercises at Shawnee High School in which his son, Edward, participated. The Ditmers spent Friday evening with friends in Greenville. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Nusbaum received word that their son-in-law 2nd Lt. John Berg was com- , missioned Ist Lieutenant at the i Loring Air Force Base in Caribou, ’ Maine. Lt. and Mrs. John Berg and small son. John, are presently living at Caribou. Mrs. John Berg is the former Jane Nusbaum. Mr. Ronald Sharp and sons spent Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Larry Bishop of Fort Wayne. Mf>and Mrs. Cliff Kinder returned home Monday from Joesboro. Illinois, where they had been called because Os the serious illness of Mr. Kinders’ father. ■ Mr. and Mrs. James Michael and family recently returned from a trip through the South. They spent a few days at Chatanooga, Tenn.; and they also stopped in Indianapolis to visit with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Michael and Nancy Michael.

Hospital Notes — Mrs. Montie George and daughter, of R.R. 3, Syracuse were dismissed Friday, June 23, from the Warsaw Murphy Hospital. Douglas Graff, 707 Pittsburgh street, Syracuse was released from the Goshen Hospital Friday, June 23. Hubert McClain, R.R. 4, Syracuse underwent a tonsillectomy at the Goshen Hospital Friday, June 23 and was released Monday, June 26. A daughter was born to Mr. and . Mrs. Gaile Finney.
