GL 7-.3066 6-22 Recipes From The Kitchen Comer Sandwich Spread 2 cups chopped carrots 2 cups chopped green tomatoes 2 green eppers chopped 2 red peppers chopped 2 cups chopped cucumbers 2 medium sized onions chopped 2 cups water. EGG DRESSING 6 T flour 4 T dry mustard 2 tsp. tumeric 2 tsp. salt 6 T butter 4 egg yolks 1 cup vinegar l 2 cup sugar lz 2 cup light com syrup 1 cup water Cook vegetables in the 2 cups water until tender.. While cooking, blend the flour, mustard, tumeric, salt and butter. Add beaten egg yolks, sugar. *4 «1P water and vinegar. Cook in double boiler until thick. Drain vegetables and mix thoroughly with the egg dressing. Pack into hot sterilized jars and process in hot water bath for 45 minutes, use as a spread on cold meat or mix with chopped meat or eggs. Summer Sandwich Suggestions Peanut butter and strained honey, mixed half and half. Tongue and chopped pickle on graham bread. Ground ham and chili sauce on white bread. Chicken and ham ground, with mayonnaise. Chopped cabbage and celery with mayonnaise. Peanut butter and cream cheese on whole wheat bread Chopped dates and peanut

butter mixed with mayonnaise. Deviled ham, tomato and lettuce with mayonnaise on white bread. History of the Sandwich The Earl of Sandwich is held responsible for our present day sandwich. The story as told and retold is that he was at the gaming table one day and so intent on his play that he refused to leave for food. He instructed a servant to bring him some meat between two slices of bread. And that was the origin of the sandwich. So you see, the Earl of Sandwich not only concocted a new dish, but one that provides a great deal of nourishment in a comparatively small amount of food. BARBECUE SAUCE 2 T lard 1 sm. onion, chopped 2 T vinegar 2 T brown sugar 3 T lemon juice % cup catsup cup water T tsp paprika Dash of ground cloves and cinnamon Salt and pepper to taste. Brown onions in lard and add remaining ingredients. Brush over spareribs, which have been browned and bake in slow oven for two hours in a covered pan. Use about 5 pounds of ribs. Bake at 325 degrees. Two Ligonier Legion Grads Get Indiana "I" Max Bailey a former Ligonier Legion player was voted the most valuable player on the Indiana University squad, and together with Dan Prickett former catcher for the Ligonier team, won an “I” award for spring baseball at I. U. Both are underclassman, and are expected to be Indiana University stars next year. Bailley was also selected to the third team in the NCAA Fourth District All Star team. The Fourth District composes nine midwestem states. In addition to these two boys. Bill Strangland and Bill Selig played varsity baseball in their respective colleges and universities last spring, while Creighton Burns cornered five strikeouts in two innings in the first Freshman varsity game at Purdue. In addition to this. Bill McClanahan, Bob Chandler and Roland Myers made the Freshman teams at their respective University.
