State Duck Calling Contest October 30 Indiana Department of Conservation will sponsor Indiana's first championship Duck Calling Contest, in conjuction with the 3rd annual Duck Hunters Clinic, which will be held at Knox. Indiana. October 30, 1960. Entry date deadline will be October 23. 1960. Entry forms may be secured from the Enforcement Division. Indiana Department of Conservation. 311, W. Washington. St., either in person or by writing your request. All entries must be returned to the Enforcement Division by Oct. 23. 1960. The contest will be open to anyone wishing to participate. The Duck Calling Contest will be held in the afternoon at Oct 30. prior to the opening of the Duck Hunter's Clinic at 7 p m The contest will be held out-of doors, the clinic in the High School gym. The winners in the contest will receive awards and trophies, which will be presented by the Indiana Department of Conservation High School Activities Plans were made last week by the Syracuse Vocational Agriculture Advisory Committee and the Vocational Agriculture teacher Richard Edwards, for continuing class instruction for farmers of the Syracuse area. Non-farm-ers and anyone interested are also invited to attend. All interested class members are invited to the school's voca tional agriculture department on Tuesday. October 4. at 7:30 p.m. Enrollment for the class will be made at this organizational meeting Plans for a series of ten meetings and course content will be made as well as plans for the time and dates of meetings. Garden Club Meets Tonight At Miles' Mrs. Nelson Miles will be hostess to the Garden Club tonight at her home on North Shore "Closing of the Garden for Fall and Winter" will be the topic of the lesson to be presented by Mrs. W E Long. F. T. A. Elect Officers The Lillian Hamman Future Teachers of America Club held its first meeting September 14. to vote in the new members. Seventeen were admitted bringing the membership to its full quota of 35 members. Officers for the year are: Donna Moots, president: Shirley Levernier. vice president; Pat Hurnrne. 2nd vice president; Bonnie Brouwer, secretary; Jill Thornburg, treasurer: Steve Williams. historian: Kay Brown, librarian: Ronnie Kramer, parliamentarian. Initiation ceremony for the induction of new members was held Tuesday evening September 20. in the school cafeteria. There were several parents and teach ers present for the impressive candlelight cermony. New members are Sherry Burson. Danny Caskey. Carol Conn, Bunny Cripe. Diane Ellis, Tom Firestone. Prayer Day Service Is Well Attended A program at the E.U.B Church Thursday evening conducted as A Denominational Day of Prayer by the Christian Service Guild of the church, was well attended by the public as well as rhurch members. Mrs. Ted Pauls, spiritual secretary of the Guild and Mrs. Paul Eppley, assistant secretary were in charge of the program devoted to songs and prayers. Members of the Women’s So riety of World Service lead the prayer sendee. A special song for the occasion was presented by a sextette of Mrs. Howard Juday. Mrs. Vearl Gaff. Miss Dorothy Carlson. Mrs. Charles Disher. Mrs Arlen Bobeck and Mrs. Paul Pollock. Rev. K E. Robinson pronounc ed benediction as the meeting closed. Methodist Choraliers Fifteen members met at the home of Mrs. Eldred Mabie Thursday evening for the regular monthly meeting ot the Methodist Choraliers. The nominating committee composed of "Grandmothers.’ Alice Clark. Jerry Connolly and Mary Bushong, presented a new slate of officers for the 1960-61 year, who were duly elected and are Mrs. Howard Woodward president; Larry Hester, vice president: Mrs. Chris Koher. publicity: Mrs.. Ernest Bushong, sunshine. Group singing highlighted the greatest portion of the evening following the business session. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess.

Kleinknight Sells Out; New Owners Open With'6l Models
Ed Kleinknight, local Chevrolet dealer for the past fifteen years, recently sold the franchise and property at 1001 South Huntington to Gordon tShort) McCormick of Nappanee and William ‘Bilb Cutter of Elkhart. The new owners will open next week under the name of Mc-Cormick-Cutter. Inc In the meantime. the building is undergoing i redecorating inside and out and there are plans to blacktop the used car lot. McCormick, former Kale Island summer resident and well known in Syracuse, is a resident of Nappanee where he owns McCormick Sales and operates a Chevrolet agency. He is presently serving as president of the Nappanee Chamber of Commerce. Cutter is a lifelong resident of Elkhart where he was associated with I. A. Miller. Inc.. Hagens Pontiac, and then became a part of Hagen & Cutter-Motors, selling new and used cars. He plans to move his family which includes an eleven year old daughter and a seven year old son. to Syracuse in the near future. He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Elks in Elkhart. Kleinknight's business plans are indefinite, he says, and the first thing he is going to do is take a vacation. McCormick and Cutter took □ver the business October 1. Delbert Whitehead, of Whitehead’s Service Station, will be in charge of the parts and sen-ice department. Mrs. Richard (Bea) Brown will continue as secretary for the new owners. THE SYRACUSCENE . . . Mr- and Mrs. Donald Lower and daughters.* Connie and Carol of Toledo. Ohio, spent the week end with Mrs. Ida Hibschman. Mr. and Mis. Lower attended the football game at Notre Dame Saturday. They called on the Herman Jensen family in Garrett Sunday afternoon.

Home From Okinawa Marine Lance Corporal Charles ‘Buddy) Stiffler, 22. son of Mrs. Mary Nobblittee, R.R. 3. Syracuse, is home on 30 day leave from Okinawa where he served with the 3rd Marine Division. While stationed at -Okinawa, Cpl. Stiffler visited Formosa. Japan. Borneo and the Philipines. Stiffler is a 1957 graduate, of North Webster High School and enlisted in the marine corps in January 1958. HONOR SOCIETY TO GIVE H. S,. ASSEMBLY PROGRAM Something new has been added to the assembly programs at Syracuse High School. Throughout the school year there will be student programs in addition to the Student Council convocations. Many of the classes and clubs of the school will be asked to participate. The first student program has been given to the National Honor Society. The program will be held October 5. 1960. The public is invited to attend. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE FOR CAMP FIRE MEETS The Syracuse Camp Fire Executive Committee held their first fall meeting at the Scout Cabin, Friday evening with nine members present. A meeting will be called in the near future for all leaders, with a training course to follow later. The Camp Fire Ceremonial will be held Sunday October 23. at 3 p.m. at the Scout Cabin.
