County Committee Names Citizens Advisory Group
Kosciusko County School Reorganization Committee has released the names of a countywide advisory group of representative citizens. The County Com mittee cannot carry out its responsibilities without assistance, and through this group it hopes to generate more informed discussion. gather more information, and stimulate more interest. The recently appointed Consulting Committee and these selected individuals will serve as a line of communication between the Committee and residents of the sounty. These citizens are Leo Adams. Douglas Yoder, and Dean Zellers. This advisory group probably will not meet frequently as a unit, but portions of it .will be called in for help on problems concerning particular areas. They may in this way help develop alternatives plans of reor ganization for study and comparison. Members of the reorganization committee feels that there will be special technical tasks which will require the aid of the county principals, and trustees groups, in addition to the citizen's group. Attend District Rally At Ligonier Sunday Seven youth and adult counselors of the EUR. church attended the E.UJB. Syracuse District Youth rally at Ligonier Sunday afternoon and evening. Plans were made for Youth week 31 January to 2 February in the afternoon session and there was election of officers. Lunch was served at the church after which Dr. Amstut of Goshen College spoke on courtship, love and marriage. Those attending from Syracuse were Charles Garner, Bob Stiffler. Lou Ann Longenbaugh. Sue Ann Gaff. Rev, and Mrs. Kennard Robinson and Mrs. John A. Craw. LOCAL CITIZEN (continued from front page) township and served a four year term. By this time the automo bile had come into its own and the old dirt roads were presenting problems. Road improvement was a part of township and county programs, better schools and consolidation of township and town schools was another program underway, in all of which he took an active part. He also was an enthusiastic mem ber of the library committee and was instrumental in pushing construction of the public library in order to make use of the Carnegie grant offered. Following his term as trustee, he served as president of the Syracuse bank until the moratorium in the early 1930’s after which he was retained for a limited time in an advisory capacity. In 1918, with two more added to the family. Joe and Jim, the Freemans built the home on Wa-_ wasee Lake where they lived for the next forty-one years, moving to town in November 1959 into a home purchased from Noble Myers next door to their daughter. Mrs. Charles W. Kroh. on Lake Street. Os the Freeman children, their oldest son, Stephen Jr., is a member of the faculty of Purdue University, their two daughters. Lucy <Mrs. Charles Kroh) and Margaret, live in Syracuse and Joe is a doctor in Denver. The youngest son Jim. died in 1937. There are 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. While his physical activity is curtailed by a heart condition with which Mr. Freeman has learned to live during the past fifteen years, he is still active, does fixit jobs around his property. and on the few occasions that he goes to town, presents an appearance which belies his age. He reads a great deal, has a keen interest in the news of the day and enjoys an occa sional TV program His friends know him for his integrity and sense of humor. Some call it the dry wit for which Vermont is famous, but those who know him best feel that it is characteristic of Stephen Freeman.

Hartzler, well known Goshen educator and “lecturer, will speak at the Tuesday 19 January meeting of the Turkey CTeek Township Parent Teachers Association, according to an announcement this week by Philip Fawley, P.T.A. program chairman. Dr. Hartzler. who has traveled extensively throughout the world, will use the topic “WhaVs Right in Education Here in the U.S.A.” The meeting, to be held in the high school cafeteria, will begin at 8:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served following the meeting, to which the public is cordially invited. Hospital Notes.. Mrs. Elvin Hoffman submitted to surgery at Elkhart Hospital Thursday and was dismissed Saturday. Julia Robbins. R.R. 3. received emergency treatment at Murphy Hospital in Warsaw Thursday.

Town Board President Not On Committees Byron Connolly does not become a member of the Town Plan Commission because of his election to the presidency of the town board as announced last week, nor does he become a member of other civic boards unless appointed. ;- Membership of the plan commission includes three chosen by the town government from the officers of the town govern ment or appointed by them, according to the rules set up for town plan commissions.
