Ted Auer. 131 West Boston Street, will play in the championship flight of Maxwelton Golf Club tourney and will meet the winner of the Dave Hochert Harold Kessinger (defending champion* match. Auer, advanced into the finals by defeating Tom Merritt Jr.. 4 to 3 after topping Bill Leman of Bremeh. 2 and 1. Merritt defeated Gene Stoffel 2 and 1 to make his way into the semifinals. In the • A" flight John Coppes of Nappanee advanced into the finals by defeating Joe Hollar of New Paris. He will met the winner of the Sam Leman-Ed Zook match. In the “B” flight. Board Names Speed Limits For Town Traffic Control
A resolution to regulate the traffic in the town of Syracuse has been prepared by the town board which designates speed limits and traffic control. At the regular meeting Tuesday. with Don Fnyeart, town marshall. sitting in on the discussion, it was decided that West and South Main Street and Boston Street would be posted for 20 mph. North Huntington Street will have a 30 mph limit. Harrison and Lake Streets 25 mph. Huntington Street south from Indiana Avenue is controlled by the state which has posted a 30 mph limit for SR 13 within the town. Cross walks on Huntington, Boston and Main streets have been marked with white paint in accordance with the school patrol plan which will go into effect this year. A roving patrol will assist in directing children to the proper paths leading to the school. Traffic controls will be in effect upon publication of the ordiance which will be done as soon as final approval by the board is given. Otis Clyde Butt appeared in behalf of the Medusa Street association He questioned the proper clearance of the overhang at Syracuse Enterprises. He also asked if it would be possible for the street to be given its full 40 foot width as in the legal description. Both matters are to be investigated by the board. Attend District Meet Os Methodist W.S.C.S. • An all day district meeting of the Women's Society of Christian Service was held Monday--31 August at the First Methodist Church in Kendallville. Attending the seminar from Syracuse were Mrs. Clara Knepple and Mrs. Noble Greene. Mrs. H. A Wright of Syracuse Lake and Nappanee, is district president. Main speakers for the session were Mrs. Homer Roose, who spoke on "The Way from Africa” • Mrs. Roose, who is a Goshen resident, just returned from Africa!. and Rev. Orrin Manifold, whose subject was "The Church and Medical Missions." Guild Invites Husbands To First Fall Meeting The Methodist Nursery Guild will begin its fall program with a pot luck dinner at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday 9 September at the dining hall of the Smith-Wal-bridge camp. Husbands of the members will be guests at the affair, and will also attend th* showing of an interesting film '■n marriage fol lowing the dinner. B church observed their 25th anniversary with a dinner party at the Shepherd's Restaurant in Ligonier Thursday evening. Guests were the Rev. C. Dob bins, a former pastor, and John Darr Maurice Dresser served as master of ceremonies. Taking part in the program which followed dinner were Lester Hubart t, Mr. and Mrs. Orval Lockwood. Mrs Sjnith and Percy Troyer. < ARREST SYRACUSE MAN IN GOSHEN: DENTES CHARGE George A Evans. 60 RR. 2. plead not guilty to a charge of driving while under the influence of intoxicants Saturday evening in Goshen. No Driving Os Cars During School Hours Students who drive cars are asked to leave them in the school parking lot during the school day, Mr. Amsler, high school principal, announced today. In special cases upon written request by the parents, approved by the principal, a student will be allowed to leave the school grounds before school has been dismissed at the close of the day. This procedure has been observed for several years. Hospital Notes . . . Mrs. Marlin Kreider submitted to emergency surgery at Elkhart Hospital Friday night. Mrs. Gerald Hubartt was discharged from Elkhart Hospital Tuesday. Knox Stetler was admitted to the emergency room for outpatient minor surgery at Goshen Hospital Tuesday. Clark Willard. R.R. 1. was treated in the emergency room at Goshen Hospital for a lacerated left elbow Tuesday. OBSERVE 56th ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. Burton Walters. R.R. 1. celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sunday with open house from 2 to 5 p.m in the home of their daughter and husband, the LaMar Leathermans of R.R. 1. Syracuse. The former Elida Gearhart of Nappanee and Mr. Walters were married 26 August 1909 in the home of her parents by the Rev. Daniel Wysong. They have one daughter, Mrs. Leatherman, and a grandson. Max Leatherman, who is stationed at Fort Leonard Wood. Mo. They have lived on their farm for the past 40 >’ears and are members of the New Paris Church of the Brethren. The SyracuScene . . . Ralph Disher Improves In LaPorte Hospital Ralph A. Disher. 59. of Milford, brother of VMan, Lloyd and Floyd Disher. was critically injured Saturday night when his truck overturned along US 6 one mile east of Walkerton. Taken to the Holy Familiy Hospital at LaPorte. he was reported to be improved Tuesday but still listed as serious. Traveling east. State police said Disher apparently lost control of his vehicle an empty tank truck, when its front wheels dropped off the pavement onto the berm. In attempting to steer back into the highway, the truck flipped over twice in the middle of the road. At first he was taken for dead. Officers arriving, on the scene recognized that he was severely injured. Disher suffered broken ribs and internal injuries. Damage to the truck was estimated at 53.500. A former Syracuse resident.
