Sudlows Return From Hawaiian Vacation sir. and Mrs. John Sudlow and daughter. Connie, returned Saturday evening from a three weeks’ trip west and to Hawaii. A combination business and pleasure trip, they flew first to Los Angeles. During their two days in Los Angeles, they went through Disneyl nd. visited with Mrs. Marie Bushong Quenton at Van Nuys. a nurse and resident of Syracuse 25 years ago. They also talked to Mrs. Patrick Finton who lives at Oceanside, and were guests of Mrs. Don George and family, in Alhambra, former residents of Wawasee. Flyiiig to Honolulu, they had headquarters for ten days at the Princess Kauilani Hotel on Waikiki Beach They joined all beach activities, toured the island by land and boat and after a tour of the islands of Kauai and Hawaii, returned to Honolulu for two more days, and were there during Proclamation Day celebration. They won a contest for tourists sponsored by the Waikiki Beach Press and received a year’s subscription. Returning on the SS Lurline they spent two days in San Francisco before flying to Chicago aboard a jet 707 Boeing. Introduces New Faculty Members At Tea Sun. Superintendent and Mrs Lewis S Immel entertained at tea Sunday afternoon in their home to introduce the nine new members of the faculty to the school personnel. Guests included members of the facuhy. the cafeteria staff, bus drivers, office personnel, building employees, and board of education with their respec tive wives and husbands. Philip Fawley. of the high school faculty, played background music on the piano and organ. Wives of the school board. Mrs. Hilary Bachman. Mrs. James C Stucky. Mrs. C. W. Kroh. Mrs. J D. Shewmon and Mrs. George T Lamm, served punch. The Misses Judy Stucky and Mary Barb Immel assisted. The guest list of 120 persons included the entire “school family " THE CARTERS HAVE A GIRL Mr and Mrs George A. Carter are announcing the arrival of their first child. Stephanie Ann. born Thursday noon 27 August at the Columbia City hospital. Stephanie weighed in at 6 lbs. 15 oz. Mrs Carter is the former Sandv DeGroff of the Journal staff George has been employed at the Journal since his release from the navy and return to Indiana early in June The Car ters live at the Beulah Mawhorter home near North Webster. Exchange Student Speaks At Rotary Club Alec Skarma. an exchange stu■dent from Burma now enrolled at Manchester College, was guests speaker at Rotary Club Monday noon. Skarma who has been in the United States one year as a student gave his impressions of this country. Rotary members said his remarks were not confined to the good things that impress him but were candid expressions of what he does not like as well. His observations provoked many questions from his audience. Skarma came as the guest of Fred Hoopingamer. A report on the purchase of the the campsite south of Syracuse. for the use of Syracuse scouts showd the club has raised SISOO of the purchase price. Another SSOO is needed soon to complete the negotiation and donations will .be welcomed. An account is set up at the State Bank for the Rotary Scout Camp site Fund. Cadet Janies Connolly return ed to West Point Friday night after spending four weeks at home. Classes for the new term began Monday at the U.S. Army I Academy. The Roy Muscarts of Wheaton were week end guests of Mrs. Ella Unrue. Mrs Unrue returned to Wheaton with them for seveal days. Don Pletcher and family of near Bristol and Mrs, Rachel Morehead of North Webster spent Sunday with Mrs. Rhoda Mock. Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Shock and Mrs. Rhoda Mock were guests of Mrs. Mock’s brother. Levi Eberly, at South Whitley Wednesday. Philip Mock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ryland Mock, spent last week end with his grandmother. Mrs. Rhoda Mock Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Shock and Mrs. Rhoda Mock called on Mrs. Rachel Morehead in Goshen Monday evening. Mrs. Billy Hunnicutt and son. Kerry.,left for Phoenix. Arizonia. Monday Mr. and Mrs. William Haas and five daughters returned to Asheville. North Carolina. Monday. after spending the summer here. Mr. Haas assisted at the Lakeside Bakery for ten weeks. Mrs. Haas is the former Joan Xanders. Mrs. Jose Olivares of San Antonio. Texas, has been visiting her father. Everett Ketering. and sisters. Mrs. Jack Stoelting and Mrs. Chris Koher Her twin daughters. Luz and Lana, who have spent the here with relatives, will return with her this week and will enter the first grade 6f school. Miss Barbara Thornburg left Saturdav for South Bend inhere she will teach in the Franklin Grade school. Miss Thornburg graduated from Ball State College at Muncie in June and was a swimming instructor and life guard at City Park Beach for the second year this summer. Mrs. Ethel Snowball, guest of Mrs. John Adrian for the past month, returned Monday to her home tn Edmonton. Alberta. Canada. From there Mrs. Snowball will fly to Vancouver. San Francisco. Phoenix and finally to New Orleans where she will embark on a West Indies cruise. Mr. and Mrs. Noble Blocker plan to spend Labor Day week end in Indianapolis with their son. James, and wife. Mr. and Mrs. R. V. Schortgen and daughters. Charlene and j Mariella. returned Saturday from a fifteen day trip south to Florida, up the east coast to New Yofk. and into Canada Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Zirzow were guests of Dr and Mrs. F L Fosbrink Saturday evening. Mrs. Herman Huey and daughter Becky, left Mondav for theli home at Gulfport Mississippi. Mrs. Bachman Presents 31 In Piano Recital Mrs. Hilary L. Bachman presented thirty-one students in a piano recital Saturday afternoon in the band room of the Syracuse High School. Sunday evening they were supper guests of another sister and her husband. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Maggart of Warssaw.Mr. and Mrs. George Glass and two children were in South Bend Sunday to attend open house at the Torrington Ball B?aring plant where Mr. Glass is a foreman in the -grinding department. Rev. and Mrs. Gerald Geiger arid children, Leon and Natheta. were in Stockwell Sunday morning to be with their son, James, who Is pastor of the Monroe and Conroy churches, and to see their new granddaughter, Cynthia Lynn, born Saturday morn ing.
