In United States Service In Naval Review James L. Spitler, aviation machinist’s mate airman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don SpiUer of Route 1, Kale Island, serving with Heavy Attack Squadron Four, took part in a full-scale naval reveiw and visit to San Francisco. 17-20 July after completeing a major exercise held off the California coast. The 15.000 men and 26 ships of the U.S. First Fleet were re viewed by Armiral Herbert G. Hopwood. USN. the Commander-in-chief of the U. S. Pacific Fleet, as they passed under the Golden Gate bridge. The exercise which proceeded the San Francisco visit involved fastmoving aggressive attack carrier teams which struck at simulated mainland tragets as naval air patrols squadrons and submarines held the defensive roll. Exercises of this eype are designed to give advance training to personnel preparing to make cruises with the U.S. Seventh Fleet in the Western Pacific. At Fort Campbell Cadet James C. Connolly 11. of Syracuse, a member of the class of 1961 at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. N.Y., is undergoing a period of summer training with paratroopers of the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell. Ky. The training is scheduled to end 31 July. This training by the 101st, vanguard of the Strategic Army Corps (STRAC*. is one of the high points of his‘tour with the academy. Cadet Connolly, son of Mrs. Joy Sims, 630 Front St., is a 1956 graduate of Syracuse High School. He attended Indiana University and is a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. His father lives at 1207 E. State St., Fort Wayne. Cadet Connolly will spend the month of August on vacation at Point academy for his third Point academy for hte third year.
