Pierceton Wins Third County Track Title High school track teams met at Syracuse Friday afternoon 1 May to compete for the county championship but the race was between Pierceton, defending champions, and Syracuse who had lost only one track meet this spring and were out to win a fifth county championship the all-sports record. Final scores were Pierceton 72% points to the Jackets 65% with Silver Lake in third place but far behind with a score of 19. Remaining schools in order of scoring were Etna Green. Sidney, Mentone, Milford. Atwood. Claypool, Leesburg. North Webster and Beaver Dam. Pierceton gained an edge with one-two wins in the 100 yd., 220 yd dash and low hurdles with two other firsts and a tie for a third. Syracuse won the 440 yd. race, half mile run and the mile relay. Two county meet records were broken when Larry Heisler of Etna Green topped the shot put mark of 51 ft 10 in. with a distance of 52 ft. 3in. on his first throw. Swenson of Syracuse in the half mile run edged out Rose of Silver Lake finishing in 2:04.5, 3% seconds better than the old record of 2:08. Haupert of Mentone broke his own school record with a high jump leap of six feet two inches, which is 1% inches below the 1950 county record set by Dave Burke of Warsaw. SHS Walks Away With Etna-Atwood Meet Syracuse thinlies walked away away with a 3-way track meet played here 29 April with Etna Green and Atwood by taking first in all events except shot put. broad jump and cole vault. Final scores showed Syracuse 114 points. Etna Green 42% and Atwood 28%. Druckamiller won the high hurdles, time .18.4. Denton took the 100 yd., dash in :10.9. Karesh won the mile in 4:57.8. Kilmer won the 440 in :57.4. Duckwall was first in low hurdles in :23.6. Swenson took the 880 in 2:09.5. Davis won the 220 in :24.0. LeCount won the high jump. Hospital Notes .. . Mrs. Daniel Brennaman, RR2. underwent emergency surgery at Elkhart Hospital Friday night. Rachel Hochstetler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hochstetler. was discharged from Elkhart Hospital Wednesday. Charles Rock. Sr. was admitted Friday to Elkhart Hospital for medical care and observation. Sam Rippey. RR 2, entered Goshen Hospital Wednesday for medical treatment. He was dismissed Thursday. Mrs. Everett Darr underwent a tonsillectomy at Goshen Hospital Wednesday and was dismissed Saturday. Mrs. Feri Rhoades was discharged Thursday from Goshen. William Geiger and Allen L. Mock were discharged from Goshen Hospital Saturday. Mrs. E. Dale Smith of Papakeechie Lake entered Parkview Hospital at Fort Wayne Friday for major surgery. She is reported to be improving satisfactorily. New Arrivals . . . NYIKOS Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nyikos are parents of a daughter. Mary Margaret, born 22 April at St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend. YODER TWINS Identical twin daughters were were born to Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Yoder. RR 2, 29 April in the Elkhart Hospital. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Artie Montel. SENIOR^MOTHERS CLUB Mrs. Noble Blocker entertained the Senior Mothers Club Monday evening with sixteen members present. She presented the program which was a review of the World’s Fair at Brussels with special emphasis on the exhibit of the United States. Mrs. Calvin Johnson and Mrs. Burl Salmon were welcomed into the club. Mrs. Herbert Michael. another new member, was unable to attend. Mrs. Burson won the sunshine gift. This was the last meeting of the club year. Members will attend the annual spring party of the combined mother’s clubs Monday 11 May. SyraeatSeoM . . . 4-H CLUB NEWS The meeting was called to order by Lexis Brazel. The American pledge was led by Judy Bryan, the 4-H pledge by Sally Yoder and Mary Kay Bushong. Singing was lead by Kathy Dorsey. Roll call was given and answered by what you like about summer. The minutes of the last meeting were read by Sharon Gilbert. Toni Jo Butt gave the Health and Safety lesson. A date was set for 23 June for a trip to Chicago to the Museum of Science and Industry. The community project for this year is to give books to the needy. Demonstrations were given by Sharon Reinsberger and Connie Wright called How To Make Tuna Salad, by Linda Biller and Jo Ellen Schoeff on How To Serve a Picnic. Scribe.
