'The 5-Teen*' Top First Junior Bowling Record Winning team of the Junior Bowling League in its first year at Syracuse is the Five Teens with a record of 27 wins and 18 losses at the close of the season Saturday 11 April. Members of the team are Linda Frushour, captain, Linda Byrd, Janet Grady, Linda Hostetler. Sue Buchan, Jo Ann Karesh and Shirley Yoder, all sophomores. Forty-three girls participated forming six teams. Organized 1 November 1958 as the Syracuse Schools GAA Bowling League, they had two weeks of instructions by Mrs. Davis of Elkhart, instructor in this area for Junior Bowling Congress. Bowling began 18 November at the Pickwick alleys through the courtesy of Jack Ronketti. owner. Officers for the first year were Linda Byrd, president; Donna Moots, secretary, Linda Robertson. treasurer, and Sally Jo Fosbrink. sports reporter. Final standings showed the Five Teens W. 27. L 18; Lucky Strikes W 26. L 19; Five Balls W 24. L 21; Bowlerettes W 224. L 224; Top Five W 19. L 26: and Sharpshooters W 164. High individual three games: Bobby Stiver 411; Sharon Grady 367; Carolyn DLsher 361. « School News WHO’S WHO October 2. 1941, was a very special day for Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Firestone, their son Jerry was born. Jerry has been with our class for eleven years. He has been very outstanding in 4-H and F.F.A. work. He has also participated in band and art. Jerry has many favorites. Some of them include steak. Agricultural subjects, Alan Ladd, Lawrence Welk, and basketball. His pet peeve is a back seat driver. After graduation Jerry plans to further his education in college. Best wishes, Jerry! Syracuse Wins Jr. High Track Meet Two more records were broken as Mickey Jones ran the 60 yard dash in 7.1 seconds, beating a previous tie between Steve Williams (1958) and David Cobbum (1957) of :07.2. Holloway tied with Gary Fisher (4’10", 1957) in the high jump. Due to a sudden change in plans, the meet scheduled to be at Syracuse, was held at Leesburg. This was a ribbon meet. Shot put. Simon second; broad jump. Druckamiller first; Holloway second; pole vault, Smith third; high jump. Holloway first. Druckamiller tied for second; 60 yard dash. M. Jones first. Duckwall third; 880 yard run. D. Jones second; 220 yard run. M. Jones first; 440 yard run Holloway first. Crow third: 100 yard dash. Duckwall second. M. Jones third: 880 relay, M. Jones. Druckamiller. Duck wall. Holloway. Final Score. Syracuse 471/3 and Leesburg 43 2/3 points
SHS Places Third In Converse Relays Sat. Syracuse placed third behind Jefferson Township and Pierceton at the Converse Relays Saturday. Jefferson scared 44 points, Pierceton 41 and Syracuse 39. Syracuse's two mile relay team was first. In this relay each boy ran 880 yards. The team included Milton Karesh, Gary Kline, Bob Swenson and LaMar Kilmer. They also set a new relay record of 8:51.4. Another first for Syracuse was the mile relay with LaMar Kilmer, Gary Kline, Dick Keim and Bob Swenson. The medley relay team also placed first. They are Carroll Denton who ran 220 yds.; Bob Swenson, 880 yd.; LaMar Kilmer. 440 yds.; and Milton Karesh who ran a mile. Other points were scored by the 880 yard relay team placing third. Carroll Denton placed fifth in the 100 yd. dash and ted Burson tied for third in the high jump. There was a total of thirty schools taking part in the meet. This is the third year Syracuse has competed. The first year the team didn’t score a point, last year they were sixth and this year third. Church Os God To Have Jonah Club Fish Fry A Jonah Club fish fry will be sponsored again by the Syracuse Chu.ch of God Friday 8 May at Oakwood Park Hotel. Tickets at $1.75 for adults. 75c for children. will available at the door or may be purchased in advance from any member of the church. Dinner will be served from 5 to 8 P-m. This semi-annual event features french fried fish in all-you-can eat quantities with a full dinner menu. A bake sale sponsored by the Youth group of the church will be held at the same time. Kathy Locke Appointed To YWCA Commission Kathy Locke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Locke of RR. 3. Syracuse, has been appointed to committees of the six commissions of the YWCA at Indiana University for tne 1959-60 school year. Miss Locke, a freshman, is a member of the choral committee In the personal and campus relations commission.
