Nice going, boys! Wednesday morning before the assembly Coach Richard Beck announced the players on the volleyball team and Ted Burson presented the trophy to Principal Glen Longenecker. The Syracuse track team got off to a good start Friday night by winning over North Manchester. Let’s keep it going, boys, all we need is one more trophy for a perfect .record. Sports isn’t the only department to win honors. The high school concert band rated a second "place at the district band meet in Walkerton Saturday. PLEW Services for T Peter Plew. 71. custodian of the Syracuse schools for 27 years, were held Saturday afternoon in the Syracuse Church of the Brethem. The Rev. Harlan Smith officiated and burial was in the North Webster cemetery. Mr Plew died Thursday in the Goshen hospital following a serious illness of one week. He had been in failing health for several months Born near' Dutchtown, northeast of Warsaw 23 January 1888 his parents were Daniel and Amanda <Vanettor> Plew. He lived in the Syracuse community for 37 vears. His first wife was Luella Tenney who died some vears ago. In 1922 he married Elma Stuckman who survives. Other survivors are one daughter. Mrs. George 'Lela> Weikel of Mishawaka: three grandchildren. and a number of nieces and nephews. Three sisters and four brothers preceded him in death. SyrecatSceee . . . Volleyball Team Adds Fourth County Trophy The Syracuse Volleyball team, playing in the fourth county contest this season, added another championship to the school record. This gives Coach Dick Beck’s outstanding Yellow Jackets a strong lead in the race for the all county trophy to be presented after track season. The Jackets have captured the Baseball, Cross Country, and Basketball championship this season. The Syracuse team downed Beaver Dam (defending champs’ 2-0, North Webster 2-1. Pierceton 2*l, and then clinched the title by defeating Atwood 2-1. Playing on the winning team were: Bob Swenson. Ted Burson, Gary Kline. Norman Druckamiller. Charles Folger. Bob LeCount, Steve Bomman, Tom Miller. Carroll Denton, Harry Alfrey, John Lantz. Mike Disher. Fred Godshalk. Franz Duy. Intermediate Mothers Model Garden Attire Mrs. Bud Cripe was hostess Monday evening 6 April to 20 members of the Intermediate Mothers Club, who met dressed in their "Green Thurmb” clothes for a “gardening party. Winning a prize for the best dressed gardener was Mrs. Bums Van Sickle. Mrs. Max Brower won the sunshine gift. A humorous reading of "How to be a Better Wife” was given by Mrs. Frank Stefanski and Mrs. Harold Arnold. Members also composed a song about their husbands to the tune of several familiar old melodies. During the business meeting, conducted by Mrs. Nelson Auer, it was decided to donate 350 to the Syracuse Water Safety Program which will get under way again this summer. Acceptance of the club’s re vised by laws was also given during the evening. Refreshments carrying out the casual theme were served by Mrs. Cripe and her co-hostesses. Mrs. Ralph Stahley and Mrs. James Stucky. The next meeting will be 20 April at the home of Mrs. Ben Twigg. The SyracuScene . . . Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hand of Nappanee were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Vearl Gaff. Mr. and Mrs. Harley Lindemuth entertained fourteen guests at dinner Sunday honoring Mr. Lindemuth’s birthday which is Saturday. Guests came from Port Wayne. Albion and Wawaka. Mr. and Mrs. George Coon of Fort Wayne were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Hastings. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Smith and sons, Ron and Dan. of Milford were Sunday guests of Mrs. Ray Meek.
