Lady Bowlers Plan To Enter State Tourney Delifht Spearman, delegate to the 1938 state convention of women bowlers at South Bend, gave her report to the members of the Syracuse Women’s Bowling Association at their annual meeting In Ligonier Monday night Mrs. Spearman also reported that her team plans to enter the national tourney at Buffalo In May. Mary Rose Henning was appointed delegate to the 1959 ' state convention at Kokomo in March. Several local teams plan to enter the state tourney which will be held at the same time In Kokomo. Fifty-one members attended the dinner meeting at the Eagle’s HaD. Toumment awards and prizes were presented to teams and Individuals. Election of officers resulted in naming Rosemary Mathews of Ligonier, vice-president; Susie Tytler and Vera Kitson were re- ° elected treasurer and sergeant-at-arms .respectively. Mental Health Program Given At Round Table Mrs. Nita Kline was hostess to fourteen members of the Ladies of the Round Table Monday evening 16 February. Roll call responses were *’My Favorite Author or Artist.’’ Mrs. Hazel Veltman. president conducted a short business meeting. Two members of the Kosciusko county Mental Health Association. Robert Henderson, and Russell Smith, both of Warsaw, addressed the club members. They also presented an interesting. film on mental health entitled ’’The Key.” The project is sponsored by the Sigma Beta Sorority, and is aided by contributions to the Uhited Fund. Mrs. Kline served a delicious assortment of codties, candies, nuts and coffee at the conclusion of the program. World Day Os Prayer Service Weil Attended A good attendance marked the World Day of Prayer service held in Syracuse at tlje Calvary E.U.B. church Friday afternoon. This year’s program was on the theme “Lord. I Believe” prepared by women of Egypt. The children’s choir gave three selections. Mrs. Leonard Barnhart spoke on the purpose of World Day of Prayer and what it means. Benediction was given by Rev. Kennard Robinson. School Band Room To Be Ready This Month Band' students will be using the new band room at school before the end of the month, according to announcement made by Lewis Immel. spperitnendent. this week. First to be completed of the six room addition under construction since last summer, it was reported at a special meeting of the school board Thursday night that the room would be ready for use this month. Immel said. Other business discussed' at the meeting Included the survey of the insurance program for the school and bus contracts for next year. The board authorized superintendent Immel to purchase audio-visual equipment for school use. Board members are Hilary Bachman. president: James Stucky, vice-president; Charles W. Local People Attend Penn Award Program Fifteen people from Syracuse attended the eighth annual award program of Penn Controls of Goshen held at the Elcona Country Club ballroom Friday evening. Those employees having fifteen or more years of service were eligible for awards and were" invited to the program. Attending from Syracuse were Norman Wiles, Velma LeCount, Wilbur Devault. Syracuse, has been granted a junior membership in the American Angus Association at St. Joseph, Missouri. announces Frank Richards. secretary. His new junior membership, enables him to register his purebred Angus at regular membership rates and entitles him to privileges of the Association until he reaches age 21. At that time he. will be eligible to convert to a lifetime membership. Maurice was one of 78 young people in the United States to receive junior memberships last month.
Rotary Club History Filmed For Rotarians “The Great Adventure,” a film drama portraying the formation of Rotary Clubs, was shown to members of the Syracuse-Wawa-see Rotary Club meeting Monday evening at Howard’s restaurant. Jess Mishler was program chairman for the evening and was aided by Nelson Miles in securing the film from district governor O. Frank Helvie of South Bend. The film was made in honor of Rotary’s Golden anniversary in 1955. Dick Young, vice-president, conducted the meeting in the. absence of president Tom Socks, who is on vacation. MRS. PEARL TURNER MARRIES IN DENVER Mrs. Pearl Turner and Joe Tucker, both of Denver, Colorado. were married Saturday 14 February at the chapel of the Veterans’ Hospital in Denver. They will be at home in Denver after a short trip to Wichita, Kansas, where they will visit relatives of■>Mr. Tucker. The new Mrs. Tucker is a sister of Mrs. Ida Hibschman of Syracuse. WRC Postponed til March The Women’s Relief Corps postponed their regular meeting scheduled for 16 February until 2 March. There will be installation of officers. near South Shore. Dr. and Mrs. E. L. Fosbrink attended the Valentine dinner dance of the Elkhart County Medical and Dental Association at the Hotel Elkhart Thursday night. Mr. and Mrs. James Wilson are vacationing in Florida.
Town Sewer and Water Lines Better This Year Heintsehnan of the town jkfeet department reported J Tuesday that main sewer lines are handling excess water and drainage from last week’s thaws and rains very well. The men worked constantly to keep sewers open and with the exception d of a day or two last week, excessive flooding has been avoided, he said. Water lines have been repaired with the exception of one in the area of South Harrison d affecting water supply to the homes of Wade Zerbe and John Auer, Heintzelman said. Until damage can be located water is supplied to these homes by hose from neighboring homes Heintzelman said water supply has not been impaired by winter freezing as much as a year ago because of work done last summer in lowering water lines. The main streets of town have been fairly well cleared of ice and all streets were graveled frequently during the ice siege. Spring work is beginning. Locke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Locke, R.R. 3, Syracuse, has been pledged to Phi Mu social sorority at Indiana University in recent rushing. Miss Locke is a freshman. HAFNER HOME James Ed Hapner, 55, was dismissed from Goshen Hospital • Sunday where he had been a patitent since Friday evening. Hapner was found Friday afternoon in a semi-concious state on the ice a short distance from shore by Charles Dean. Syracuse. 1 fireman. Dean got assistance from the emergency squad to take Hapner to a local physician for treatment which was followed by* hospitalization. Hapner is an employee of Niles Brothers in Syracuse. BUCHHOLZ IMPROVING Ernest Buchholz continues to - improve at the Goshen Hospital * according to latest reports. Buchholz was taken to the hospital 2 February suffering with chest pains.
